2K and Firaxis recently announced Sid Meier’s Starships, a turn-based game about commanding a fleet of starships while exploring the galaxy, a sort of follow-up to Civilization: Beyond Earth which just released late in 2014. Starships is making its way to iPad, thankfully. Sid Meier and Firaxis participated in a panel at PAX South 2015 talking about Beyond Earth and also discussing a lot of what to expect with Starships. There’s a lot to take in with the game, and a lot of features like ship customization for different types of enhancements and characteristics that go beyond cosmetic ones. But the game will primarily involve exploring the galaxy and completing missions on different planets, and battling enemies in hex-based battlefields, dealing with planets and asteroids getting in the way. The last 20 minutes of the panel include footage of the game with Sid Meier playing it, and he’ll be playing some more on the Firaxis Twitch channel if you want to catch more of the game in action. With all the talk about the game, hopefully we’ll be seeing this one sooner than later.
