The best way to describe Jared Bailey’s next game is that it’s Joust with tanks, and yeah, that is pretty much what Bumper Tank Battle is. Releasing next Thursday, October 30th, this is the latest in a series of micro-games that the creator of Cubed Rally Racer (Free) has been making, following Wrong Way Racing (Free) and Bowl Faster (Free). The objective here is to drive a tank around an arena, destroying other tanks, but not by shooting at them. No, it’s about crashing into them with the front of the tank at a spot that isn’t also the front of their tank, indicated by a small colored section of the circle surrounding each tank.
So, it’s kind of like Joust in that it’s about hitting a weak point that the other enemy can’t hit, with the tank gun serving as the lance, though gun-to-gun collisions kill both tanks. However, instead of flapping around, this tank is constantly moving in circles, and tapping on the screen changes the direction of the spin, so managing that to keep up speed and direction is key. As is not bumping into rocks, but they’re not deadly. It’s a clever brand of challenge, and you’ll get to take it for a spin next Thursday for free.
