New iPhone Games Coming Tonight: ‘Adventure Xpress’, ‘Astro Party’, ‘I am a Brave Knight’ and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Alright, so I’m pretty stoked for this week’s whole assortment of games, but one I’m particularly excited for: Adventure Xpress. It seems like everything Adult Swim makes and everything PikPok makes is great, and while I’m bordering on getting tired of free to play puzzle RPGs… I’ve got a great feeling about this one solely because of the talent behind it.

Of course there’s a bunch of other noteworthy releases this week as well, here’s the whole list of games with threads on our forums right now:

      I'd have happily paid 19.99

      1. Luciano1084

        Yup

      2. Bool Zero

I did, actually did pay ore than that for it... On PC back when it originally released! That's why I had no problem doubling down on this great title so I can have it on the go!

    2. Poo

Worth double the price. Easy GOTY.

      1. guitarman85

My thoughts exactly. GOTY by far at this point.

So does this mean you have no input on the TA Games of the Week?? I'm so confused. ☺ Seriously though, I was surprised not to see it there.

Can someone help me for a second?
I'm not understanding the point of attacking the armor, it doesn't seem to make a difference.

      1. Jim Shorts

It makes a difference to me. It's not the kind of combat where you go at it guns blazing (or swords and arrows, whatever) ... Gotta go at it slowly. Use Archers to pick off the armor, and tough guys to block / take blows, for better hits from your front line when their armor is worn. At least, that's my approach. They keep killing my fellas when I bypass their armor and go straight for the kill because I'm wasting more energy in long-haul trying to knock them straight out.

It may be true that it seems like I'm killing them faster when I bypass their armor, but they always take at least one of mine out in the process.

      2. Onikage725

Attacking armor is basically a debuff to their defense. Attacking health rebuffs their attack as well, but their armor protects their health. So, you have to choose between going straight for health, limiting their damage output, or chipping at armor so that you can then kill them more quickly later. For example, one guy in my last fight was taking 1 damage to either stat. I had 3 guys hit his armor, and then a varl one-shorted him from full health on the next turn now that he was defenseless.

Firstly, THANK YOU ARN, I can finally post after about 3 weeks. I now value the opportunity so much more. I bought this game the other day and love it. It's very deep and worthy of the price for sure.

    6. lifeat78

I've been completely impressed by this game. It's incredibly immersive and has a terrific depth in the way you're really required to plan and use strategy to accomplish things. The characters are enjoyable, and it's just beautiful to look at. I agree... $9.99 is a bargain for this game.

    7. stelluhreyesthis

This game is so good I can't believe I almost didn't buy it, reminds me of the old Bluthe animated movies from back in the day I.e. Sword in the stone, Robin Hood etc.

I love RPG, love adventure games, point and click adventures, interactive fiction, the list goes on. I thought this mix of RPG, war hammer and UFO style combat would be the bees knees... This game did nothing for me, and I just don't understand the raving. I bought it the second it came on the App Store having heard all the plaudits and after a couple of hours play, most of it bored I just deleted it and put in for a refund as I know I will never play this again.. controversial maybe, but I suppose you can't please everyone

    9. mkdms14

I have never heard of this game until today was it underrated? The article just says nice things about it.

Why isn't it called "The Banner Saga"? I thought King would've made a stink over the word "saga." Did they decide to trademark "the"?

      1. jeffyg3

From what I understand they gave up that trademark battle because of the backlash in the United States over their stupidity. I dunno how it went in other countries tho

      2. NickyNichols

Stoic's application for a U.S. trademark for "The Banner Saga" was opposed in January 2014 by King, the developer of the game Candy Crush Saga, on the grounds of being "confusingly and deceptively similar" to King's trademark for the word "Saga". According to Stoic, this dispute could hold up the release of a sequel.[6] However, on March 22, 2014, Stoic posted an update on their blog, stating that an agreement had been reached.

Great game, and one which is perfect for the platform, well, the iPad platform anyway. (it's rather too small on even an iPhone 6).

It looks lovely, runs at 60fps (mostly), and even has iCloud saves. Oh and no in-app purchases too. Boxes all ticked.

      1. WilliamG007

It doesn't run even close to 60fps, at least not on an iPad Air. When the camera pans between characters, it's pretty chuggy.

I'll be that guy and say this game does not play all that well on iOS devices. For reference, I played it on my iPad Air and iPhone 6 Plus. On the 6 Plus, it's pretty hard to make selections without mis-tapping, especially conversation responses and confirmations of attack on the battlefield. Even moving around without zooming the screen in and out constantly is a chore.

On the iPad Air, things are better, but things are STILL pretty small to tap on, and the frame-rate really is bothersome. This is a work of ART, and as such - should be experienced the best way possible. That is NOT on iOS devices for the above reasons. I recommend everyone buy this for PC/Mac (you get both on Steam when you buy one).

I do NOT recommend this at all to iOS owners if they have even a relatively modern PC. The game is gorgeous on the computer and really should be experienced that way not only for the lovely artwork but for the superior control method/input, too.

        1. nomstar

Runs fine on my iPad Air. Sounds like you might need a restart after your install or close out some other background apps?

          1. WilliamG007

No, sir. Runs the same on an iPad mini with Retina display.

            1. WilliamG007

Spent some more time with it on the iPad Air. It's clear this is just a direct port without much love given to it (made abundantly clear by how tricky it is to pick conversation responses without hitting the wrong one). So many assets are just too small, and not well thought out for the touch screen (and that's aside from the frame-rate issue - tested now on an iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, and iPad mini with Retina display). It's a shame, because one would have thought this would be perfect for the iPad. The PC/Mac is still the best way to experience this gem of a game.

              1. Onikage725

This is true- one prompt tells you you can use the "Esc key" lol. I'm going to forward that to their support, maybe hey can clean it up a bit. I glad they got the darn thing out finally, they can optimize and fix one or two tutorial typos later.

    12. Ralle

    13. edugamic
