Simogo’s ‘Device 6’, ‘Machinarium Pocket Edition’ and More Hit the New Zealand App Store

TouchArcade Rating:

It’s Wednesday morning again which means it’s time to start counting down the hours until a whole bundle of brand new iOS games is upon us. We’re particularly excited for Device 6 by Simogo, and Machinarium Pocket Edition is a welcome release- Especially for people out there who lacked iPads to play Machinarium when it was originally released.

Here’s the list of games that are on our radar right now. Remember, this might not be everything, as it isn’t entirely unheard of for random games to pop up all the way through tonight and tomorrow morning.

Excellent review. Respectful of the game and your readership. Not enough criticism like this.

      How long is this game?

    3. revolverblue85

Fantastic game. 2-3 hours depending on how much time you out in and how much trouble some puzzles may give you.

2-3 hours? chapter 3 had me for 2-3 hours itself! drove me mad

It's good, but Indigo Lake for me is miles ahead of this in terms of immersion and production quality. I don't normally complain about game of the week since it's very subjective but I can't help but feel it's been somewhat robbed of the front page headline it deserves here.

      1. kirby83

i dont mean to bash but Indigo Lake doesnt even look half as polished as Device 6. Simogo are tasteful and skilled designers.

        1. heresandypandy

Have you played it through? I'm sorry but it's polished as hell. There are a few (very) minor control niggles but otherwise it's almost AAA quality, especially the latter half of the game. It would be pretty easy to make a case for it being one of the best survival horror titles of the last 5 to 10 years on any format.

          1. kirby83

best survival horror of the last 10 years on any platform? hahaha damn man, and i thought your first comment was bold...

Indigo Lake is fantastic. It's immersive, it's scary as hell, it provides freedom that is as great as it is frightening. It's just... Device 6 is something else.

      2. Jared Nelson

Indigo Lake is VERY good. But they are also very different games. Like, very, very, very different. Have you played Device 6?

      3. monetarydread

Indigo Lake? Ha! First off, its an FPS on iPhone, and one of the worst controlling ones at that. Second, the game came out in August, so it does not qualify as a new release.

        1. Scarbir

No and no. It just came out this week and it actually is one of the best, if not the best controlling iPhone shooter. I think you're confusing it with an other game.

          1. monetarydread

Go to the app and look at the 'App History,' section. The game was released on August 30th. There was an update this week, that is why it appears to have no reviews.

Its also an FPS on iPhone. It does not matter how well it controls in comparison to other iPhone FPS's, it still controls like shit. Its just a matter of how willing you are to fighting with the control scheme. Also, as far as control goes, it is mostly inaccurate and frustrating.

I am not saying that the game is bad, but it would be better suited to a PS Vita than an iPhone. Whereas Device 6 is a game designed for IOS that would be gimped on any other platform. Its more original of a concept, and is executed flawlessly.

It's indicated as universal, but I'd like to ask if it's better to play this on a phone or an ipad mini?

      1. loox

I have the same exact question. It looks like it may be better experienced on my iphone 5. But I don't know exactly why I think that (maybe the headphones, maybe the frequent rotations?). Just about all other games are best on my ipad 3. But this one screams iphone to me. Can someone please post their take on this? No spoilers please.

        1. revolverblue85

I used my mini. With the rotating and pictures that are throughout the game, I'd say it's better suited for the ipad.

          1. loox

Thanks so much. Ipad it is!!!

      2. witedahlia

I prefer to play it on my iPad mini as opposed to my phone. Works great on both, though.

I know you guys do a lot of TA Plays every week and I love them, I will watch them all and decide what games I am going to get from them, but it would be awesome if you made sure one of those TA plays was of your game of the week.

      1. Jared Nelson

Pretty sure we have one for every gotw pick except Leisure Suit Larry and Device 6.

A TA plays for Device 6 really wouldn't work though, so I doubt we'll ever do one for it. Thank you for watching them btw :)

        1. HandsomeLuke

Ok well then bring back kitty corner.

    7. JudahJames

We're on to you! You little scum! ;)

    8. Richy23

I purchased this yesterday and spared 20 minutes to play it yesterday. I'm completely stumped on the first page/puzzle! Really don't want to cave in asking for help or any guides though so will pop it on again in a minute! Excellent game though, very stylish and different!

    9. Naraka

Game of the week is a misleading title for what may not be the best game of the week. Change it to reflect what your trying to say. Unique Experience of the Week. Or you will always have ppl 'over think it' because or your actions, don't try to blame the reader. If you need to explain yourself after the title your doing something wrong, perhaps you should just think.

The visuals are very nicely done but still this game is bullshit. I was actually excited to play an interesting and a "original" novel/adventure game but it turned out to be a very boring and shallow story with pointless and boring puzzles. Imo calculator app is much more fun to play with.

      1. Chris

        Well aren't you cool.
