This morning Firemint released some additional details about the upcoming Real Racing 2, along with the best news of all: We’ll be playing the game before Christmas. They’ve also released a short gameplay video which features a Nissan GT-R (R35), but Firemint has stressed that this is still in development, and not representative of the final game.
It gets better yet, they’re promising a career mode that will “easily provide 10 hours of gameplay" as players earn in-game money by winning races and increasing their reputation. We will be able to buy and sell cars, unlock tracks and additional championship events, and even customize cars with various performance enhancements and paint jobs. The game will support all iPhones and iPod touch models, going all the way back to first generation hardware while having enhancements for the latest devices as well.
Needless to say, I can’t wait.
I Hope that RR2 becomes like Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport.
Wow, the graphics look amazing. Hope they do an HD for the iPad.
Why would they need a separate HD app? I assume this is supporting retina displays, so the high-res art is already there.
You'd think... Unfortunately Firemint went the way of releasing a seperate HD app for both Flight Control and Real Racing to get more money. Hopefully they'll have a change of heart this time around...
They will for sure it a good console to play racing game
No Offroad :(.
alright! all models supported!
Wow. The best is getting better. Anyone with Real Racing on their device can call themselves a serious gamer (with a serious portable gaming console) AAA all the way. My most wanted by a country mile.
Great to see that they aint giving up on 1st and 2nd gen devices (Looking at EA) :)
Hope on 3GS it will look like on 4 without AA. Waitin
Gotta know how many licensed cars are in the game :D So excited!
I'm hoping they actually put a bit of "Real" in it this time. The first one was fun, but the cars were all fake, the courses were all fake, and the handling wasn't even close to realistic.
Hoping for the same, but from what i've seen in the video, braking is more for fun than for handling (saw the player brake maybe 3 times throughout the whole race). And the Nissan GT-R, though nice, doesnt handle like a Formula 1.
Looks like it's going to be Real Racing with nicer graphics, though i hope im proven wrong and this is more like GT Racing with nicer graphics.
He probably didn't break because of the auto-brake assistant. At RR1 it's on by default.
Looks sweet! Looks like we are also getting a minimap.
wonder if this means no online mp for Real racing
It's already there! :D
I won't lie it looks amazing, but the handling doesn't even look mildly realistic unfortunately. He was taking corners at over a hundred mph like a Formula 1 car. I should probably just stop wishing for a true sim though.
If it's anything like the original there's different control schemes you can use. There's a super easy mode where you just point the car in the direction and it brakes for you. That looks to be the style he's demoing. There's also one where you have gas and brake all on your own.
Yeah I did enjoy the first one a lot, but I guess I was hoping for something a bit more realistic handling and physics wise. I don't doubt this one will be a lot of fun though. But we shall wait and see. It's just one gameplay video so we can't draw too much from it.
That was one of my main gripes for RR1 ... always felt like the cars were over grippy and the replays make the cars look like they're on rails ... i really really really hope they can make the over feeling a little more realistic than it currently is ...
Graphics look epic though
Oh please, add some dust.
There wasn't any because this is development version.
Nice vid! Sure lacked suspension effects of the car, some dust/smoke and some shadows, but this is a development video, and i'm sure it all will be there, and this game will be better than the first one (IMHO, the best iDevice racer there is). The car texture is just beautiful, and the scenarios with many more details than the first one. This is an instabuy, ladies and gents!
wow...it looks so cool :) i want it....NOW !!!
i was actually thinking the graphics looked pretty mediocre on this. I mean come on look at the rims/wheels of the vehicle...even a 1st gen ipod could support better graphics than that. it did say that this wasnt a representation of the final version though so we'll see...and i hated the control of the vehicles on the first game. Need for speed is much smoother. I'll buy it if the graphics are better.
You fail at trolling
Need for speed was utterly ugly and slow as hell.
I was focusing on the track textures and modeling. Finally no polygonal rumble strips (in RR each corner looks like a giant hexagon edge). Smooth corners FTW!
"The game will support all iPhones and iPod touch models, going all the way back to first generation hardware "
A shame.
Some people won't want to hear this, but compromises to the game engine had to be made to support old hardware. What a shame the new game couldn't have been forward-looking and been built from the ground up with only new gens in mind. Even with the enhancements, the game won't be all that it might've been.
Real Racing is still far and away the best racing game for iOS, and this looks a LOT better. Should be very good.
I think the graphics look worse than RR1
Now that is how you develop a game. Put in the extra effort and release it for all models and do the right stuff for the latest.
Graphics was bad on 1:33-1:37. The animation was not smooth and the track/background looked flat. Basically, it looked like the car was just floating on a flat 2D plane. Needless to say, if it were up to me, I wouldn't have been confident enough to show this video. Thankfully, it's just a developmental video. Excited by the different licensed cars coming in. Highly likely that I'm getting this on my iPad. Of course, I'm really assuming that the actual final game would have much much better graphics than this video.
Whattt??? Auto acceleration ?!?! Nooooooo
RR1 has auto acceleration and brake on by default. You can turn it off in the menus. Hope it will be the same at RR2.
It looked like the car was stuck on the road. Didn't see or hear any drifting or slipping at all while he was racing trough the corners. Please let these physics be "Real"!
looks good. but I dont see a major diffference between that and RR1.
