Last week we got a sneak peek at On The Rocks’ latest game published by Freeverse, Thor [App Store]. In the game you play as Thor, the mythical Norse god of thunder, who has decided to go rampaging across the land with his trusty magical hammer.
Everything in the game is controlled using simple tapping and sliding gestures. As you run through the four different locales and 13 levels that make up the game, you need to tap on thunder orbs and slide your finger across lightning bolts to keep your score multiplier high. All the while, you need to tap at the right to to overcome environmental obstacles such as barrels to jump over and various thrown objects to slide under. Anything that Thor can’t avoid he smashes with his hammer, and at several times throughout the game you will need to tap on things to attack them with lightning bolts.
The gameplay itself couldn’t be more simple, and overall Thor plays a lot like Run! [99¢ with a different art style and a much more family friendly atmosphere without Run!’s array of missile launchers and saw blades. To see what’s involved in the game, check out this gameplay video:
I can’t quite put my finger on what keeps me playing this game. I suppose I’m kind of a sucker for anything with score multiplying combos of any kind like the orb and lightning collection, and I’ve always appreciated games set in mythical settings. The art style is great, and even though the gameplay is on the simpler side of things, I’ve still had a lot of fun in Thor.
