Real Time Strategy Game ‘Warfare Incorporated’ Comes to iPhone

Mobile developer Spiffcode has recently released an iPhone version of their highly rated, mobile real time strategy game Warfare Incorporated [App Store] through the App Store.  Warfare Incorporated makes its debut at a limited time introductory price of $4.99.

Spiffcode calls Warfare Incorporated, which was originally released in 2003, the best selling mobile real time strategy game of all time.  The game combines certain elements of both Command & Conquer and StarCraft and provides a fairly standard, overall RTS experience: setting up a base facility, mining for income, expanding operations with said income, defending against enemy forces, etc.

Readers responded quite positively to the iPhone version in our forums and the PalmOS and Pocket PC versions received rather high marks from various mobile review sitesPalmAddicts had this to say:

I have played a lot of games over the years, but nothing even comes close to the entertaining game play of Warfare, Incorporated. This game has definitely set the bar for RTS for the Palm OS and, dare I say, for all games in general.

Features listed by the developer:

  • Fully touch optimized for iPhone and iPod Touch
  • 22 unit and structure types
  • 20 story missions and 200+ add-on missions (and growing)
  • Full PC-based mission editor – create and publish your own missions
  • 2-4 player Multiplayer coming soon – now in BETA

I'm thinking about getting this game. Looks like a lot of fun but how good is the level editor, and "Save them locally"? Does that mean we cannot download other peoples levels and what not?

  2. Mike

Oliver, it could be much snappier when fading in to each level and the menu system. Aside from that, it isn't too bad.

  3. Zztfox

Until they add an online level sharing community, I absolutly refuse to buy it!

  4. Tony

$5, not bad compared to what I was expecting. I have to agree the framerate looks choppy from the videos I've seen though.

  5. Sam

Help i got the game but whenever i try to draw something it says "Can't draw erase something first" The problem is is that when this error occurs the game has just started and i can't draw anything please help

Framerate and load time between levels is slow. I think that this has a lot of potential but it's just not quite there yet. Also .... a level editor with no tutorial and no way to share (if you can figure out how to use it). For $4.99, IMO it's not worth it .... maybe .99 or even $1.99.

    @Sam
Simply reboot your device as it is mentioned in the game description in the App Store. That worked for me.

Anyone care to outline the differences between this and Touch Physics?

The game doesnt work. I feel ripped off. Its broken. Most of the time it wont let you draw anything, and the rest of the time their is a serious problem with with the program that results in extremely slow framerates.

Basically they sold a broken game that doesnt work. Its ridiculous.

    Do not buy this YET.

Touch Physics actually performs a lot better.

Hey, I have the same problem with Sam.
"Can’t draw erase something first”, ya, im going to remove this bulls***, useless app

    @lucky

The devs said how to solve that in the app description:

"If you see the pop-up stating "Can't draw anymore! Please erase something!" right after you start the application, please press the sleep button for a while to reboot the device, and then start the application again.
We will release the new version soon to settle this issue."

The dev's advice doesnt work. Its a diversion from the truth. Rebooting does nothing and there is nothing to erase.

The dev is guilty of selling broken software.

rebooting fixed the problem for me, but the beginnings of levels need a good solid optimize, it's boring watching them draw in at a snails pace

I hate it when developers release unready games.

"I hate it when developers release unready games."

Unfortunately, this seems to be a terribly common problem. It's not even like the devs have to develop for multiple platforms here, not counting the subtle differences between iPod Touch and iPhone.

What is the bug fix release policy for Crayon Physics? Are we entitled to an update (when they fix the "Can't draw anymore..." bug).

$4.99 is a LOT of money for an iphone game, IMHO.
