Playing on Android, but god damn Fear Itself and Infinity Gauntlet are astonishing. I'm absolutely crap at both, as per usual, but unlike some of the tables they're just incredible fun to play regardless of your skill level. Brilliant production values - great, great music on both, and the model work on the characters is a thing of beauty - but it's the way each table keeps screwing, very creatively, with the physics and the rules of play that really sells them. I liked the themed hero-pinballs on the Avengers movie table and these just feel like an evolution of that in some ways. Oh, and I agree, the voicework is phenomenal. Just fantastically done pulp silliness that fair sends shivers down my spine. PUNISH AND TERRIFY EVERY. LIVING. THING. YOU. CAN. Damn straight. And I thought World War Hulk was done well.
This app is still broken. The app crashes at start up everytime on both my iPhone 4S and my iPad Mini, even after a hard reset. Every since the last update Zen is totally unplayable for me.
Yes jail broken, but Zen had always worked until the last update. Edit: It's finally working on my jailbroken iPad Mini, I did another hard reset and it worked. Still doesn't work on my jailbroken 4S though.
Does anyone know if there's an advantage to buying the Star Wars tables in either the Zen Pinball app vs the stand alone Star Wars app? I tried googling and saw mention of a "meta-game" that is only available in the stand alone app, can someone explain that?
I have heard of nothing of this "meta-game." Some of the tables have such a thing within them, but the tables are supposed to be the same in either. As far as benefits, I personally have Zen Pinball because I love the Marvel tables. I bought all the Star Wars tables as well, and they are great. If you just want Star Wars tables, the standalone app is on sale right now, so you can get the three tables for a dollar less ($5 vs. $6) that way versus the Zen Pinball app.
Thanks. The reason I'm asking is that the Star Wars tables are also on sale inside the Zen Pinball app. Seems there is no price difference so I'm trying to figure out if there's any other advantage between one or the other. Leaning toward the Zen Pinball app right now, gives me the option of buying more tables and keeping it all within the same app instead of having two.
The Star Wars Pinball app has an extra gimmick to it, but it doesn't make any difference to the actual tables. The Star Wars tables are on sale for a dollar each in both apps, so it's no cheaper to take SWP over ZP right now.
Doh, I just wondered the same thing and have found out for myself! I believe the tables themselves are IDENTICAL in both versions but in the stand alone version they have a few more unique twists on the old Pro/Team score stuff of the standard Zen tables. Whenever you play a game you can choose to play for the Light or Dark side of the force (and no worries, you can freely switch allegiance before any game so you're not locked into anything). Each game you play you'll earn some 1-1000 force points for your side of the force. While the combined totals, much like the Pro and Team scores of the Zen tables mean little to me, I DO really like the concept of the 1-1000 rating at the end of any game. They say you're awarded 500 for getting an average score at the table so it feels a bit like taking the SAT or something, seeing if you can get a score that rockets you to the world's top 10% or so with a Force score of 990 or higher. I think all of your run's Force Scores are treated something akin to RPG experience points. Once you earn enough you'll go up a title rank in the Jedi or Sith brotherhoods. I don't believe these titles translate back into the games themselves, however ("Oh you're a Sith Master, eh? Well then PLEASE take an extra ball.").
Thanks for that detailed info. It sounds like it's all about leaderboards, I don't really care about that stuff so I guess I won't let that influence me. I'll get the Zen Pinball app instead of the stand alone.
Just bought the standalone star wars table, awesome! Now I'm so hooked I want to grab another Zen table. Which one do you guys recommend? I want a table with good flow. Also a nice looking table is a bonus.
If you have only Star Wars app , well my advice is to get all tables.Bobba Fett is kinda hard table for beginners, you really need to know what you're doing but animations and effect are awesome, I also like table "corroded dust metal" color scheme a lot.Clone wars has hands down the best effects and best look out of all SW tables, it even has classic SW intro sequence which is nice and a lot of animations are going all around table while you play.It is the easiest table in my opinion ,you can wreck up a high score even if you don't know what you're doing.Only annoying thing after some time is Yoda's fortune cookie talking every 5 seconds, especially in longer plays.
Cool thanks! I'm loving the SW table so far. Very cool. What about non SW tables? Which ones do you recommend and why? Thanks for the info!
I bought Boba Fett. With the Marvel tables on sale now as well, I was wondering if anyone has opinions on what the best Marvel tables are? And does anyone know why the heck they haven't ported Spider-Man table to iOS? It seems crazy that they wouldn't have done that, he might be the most popular Marvel superhero of all of them. Fear Itself looks interesting.
I planned to do detail reviews of all tables I own , but never did have time to put all that together.Zen pinball is my favourite time killer on iOS to be honest, played some tables for hours overall and I'm always excited to see new tables, even though I'm not into Marvel ones that much. Moon knight Most impressive table graphic and effects wise currently avaliable.Graphic is sharp, story is told in fashionable and beautiful old comic style with animations which can be experienced already from mind blowing quality opening animation. There isn't much animation going on at lower and middle part of table except for missions , which is actually a good thing , you won't be distracted so much.It has one of best mini games in my opinion.Effects and voiceover sounds are excellent .Table colors are "clean" and "relaxing" , white with light blue tone.Table Per se isn't boring , featuring lot of various missions , mini games and overall genius table design , but I didn't find it as appealing as some other tables in longer play sessions.Table difficulty is medium, not hard, but definetly not easiest table around, probably the most balance table out there. Blade Graphic and effects are very good, not excellent though as some other tables. That shouldn't bother you much, because once night cycle falls over table ( yes it has day-night circles ! ) table is so much more amazing.Night dark-blue and red tone with subtle lightning effects over whole table is an impressive sight, probably only table with lightning effects all over it in that mode.Mini games and missions are also very good , some of them even a bit funny. Now for an RPG part, once you hit shop with ball, you have options of different usefull gear that provides bonuses like higher score multipliers , kickback activation, etc..Gear is bought with money you earn trough playing, which is easily acquired. This makes game much more enjoyable as it gives sense of actual skill progression in every playtrough.Voiceovers are very good, but techno music from Blade movies is what pumps up the gameplay when missions start.Table is relatively easy, additional balls can be acquired without much problem and missions are generally easy. Epic Quest Truly an epic table and hands-down , best table in Zen Pinball imo.Voiceover is excellent, with funny main hero taunts.Graphic is very sharp, cartoony and colors of table overall are beatifull. There is quite a lot of animations going on over whole table; design is superb with amazing number of possible ball routes and mazes.Even a small medievil-like theater with cut outs that represent characters and short animations is present.Once enemy is encountered or chosen from missions battle begins and goal is to shoot ball in right lane to perform an attack, in left lane to defend, or if skilled/ lucky over top mill and activate scrolls to instantly kill enemy. As hero defeats enemies, he gets experience and levels up which means more health points ( it can be replenished by drinking health potions after striking specific place ) and acquires better equipment that changes his overall looks, boost status and resistance to one of 4 elements.Difficulty is easy/ medium. If you like both RPGs and pinball, buy this ASAP. Excalibur Has retro table looks what is good in my books.Graphic is good ( considering it was one of first tables ) .Music really gets you into table theme what is very good, Voiceovers are like Sean Connery himself did them, but eventually become boring as there isn't much variety in them ( like Yoda from Clone Wars table).Missions and mini games are good, nothing special, there is some jousting, fighting of robber knights , quest for holy grail , but most impressive is attack on castle that happens in multiple steps, some amazing animations , especially when archers launch a volley of arrows.Design isn't innovative as most other tables, with huge sword ( Excalibur ) in middle blocking lot of space that could have been used better.Table isn't frustrating, but it is hard and some skill is needed for most missions.Don't be discouraged from buying it though if you're into whole medieval theme and Holy grail/ Excalibur story, it can still provide you with hours of fun.
Just went crazy and bought 11 tables. Still tempted to buy Paranormal as I have heard its very interesting. Damn sale.
I think the "Zen original" tables are always 0.99 so you can always wait... ;-P I picked up Xmen, Moon Knight and Blade. From a few rounds, I find them all really fun. Personally I find them more fun than all 3 Star Wars tables and Epic Quest. Now debating the Woverine table... That said, I still like Sorcerer's Lair the best.
