I love iOS games, but I honestly hope Nintendo never comes on board, much prefer them to stick to the business of selling their own handhelds, and keep those old ports of games coming to the 3DS! Nintendo would drop dead before EVER putting their games on the iphone.
I can't believe it... It's insane to see someone actually taking the template and releasing it without any major changes... Changing the trees around is a simple task in this template so I won't really count it... Thanks to all those who like the art work btw. I had fun doing it...
Heh... the sad thing is that this game might have made more money than BOT... which is a game that's in the same genre as Zelda, that I made with GameSalad. I worked for months on that game. According to App Annie, BOT ranked as high as #53 in role-playing, but Zanda is already #31 in role-playing. Wow, that's discouraging.
That's a shame... I just can't understand apple though... This is such a clear fraud case and I had apps knocked back because of the silliest things in the past... Grrr....
This is just getting stupid... Although, it will get a whole lot funnier when there's several Zanda's out there.
Strivemind - The Zanda guys are just another 'template publisher' - these guys have a whole load of our templates in their apps list - without art changes... This is getting crazier by the day...
I don't think anyone expected this to skyrocket the way it did... Now it's even appeared on Gamasutra and GameSetWatch... I for one did not... and I made the art and came up with the title for the template... It was fun doing - and that's the main reason we did the template.... Making it into a full game is a huge task when trying to make a RPG and even more so when trying to get close to a Zelda like gameplay... With other project in the pipeline at the moment we just wanted to show that it's possible to make something that resembles a professional RPG with Gamesalad... It was a proof of concept and meant to be used as a learning tutorial... In hindsight - yes - we should have watermarked the art... but honestly... if I create the art for a tutorial in a day [like Zanda] or in a few hours [like the towerdefense or racerz template] I don't consider the art being that good or that valuable that it needs protecting... It's more the fun aspect that keeps me illustrating Darren's templates... To see this 'app' getting through apples quality control is the biggest surprise to me... and it's gotten through twice now (with 'Zanda') also in the app store as of today... We are flabbergasted by apple and the odacity of some 'developers' to publish a template without changes... It's wrong to put the blame on templates looking too good - they are meant to look good to raise the bar, motivate the developers, push the limits of gamesalad... Nevertheless will we take action and make sure that those 'developers' that put a template straight into the store will have a harder time from now on... but I feel that apple is to blame for their normaly so painfully and anal quality controls which seem to fail in so many cases now and Gamesalad for not monitoring the apps that are being created to keep the brand 'Gamesalad' in a positive light and not allow certain apps to go through... In the case of 'Zanda' Gamesalad knew about the template from early videos and imho it would have been an ideal showcase app to push the limits of Gamesalad and show the world that you can create gread games with this tool... Sadly there was no interest on their part to support a project and get something stunning funded... Neither Darren, Wayne nor myself can fund a 6 - 8 months development cycle to create even a small to medium RPG based on the 'Zanda' idea... Hence the publishing of a template instead of a full game...
I am surprised that Apple let this through. Yet, how's GameSalad to blame? I don't want them to have any say in what I can publish... and I'm glad that they don't get involved in pre-screening apps. True, GameSalad could get more involved in promoting their software and the games created with that software. Yet, I don't think that GameSalad should get involved with funding. That's what sites like kickstarter are for.
