Hello all, As has been mentioned Z-Exemplar has been updated with some improvements to its drag controls. Since initially releasing the game I've had some great feedback on what was and, more importantly, what wasn't working with the control methods on offer. I want Z-Exemplar to be the best game it can be so I've taken on board what has been said and I've tried to improve the controls where possible. My ideal is that the game is played with the drag-control method (outwith an MFI controller obv.) so I've focused on making this a bit more adaptable. So now, in the settings menu, you can define the size of the drag area to suit your needs. * A small area means the ship moves further in relation to the drag-cursor's movement but at the cost of a bit of accuracy. * A larger area means more accurate movement is achievable but larger movements of the drag-cursor are required. I'm probably making it sound a lot more complex than it actually is and it's relatively intuitive once you get the settings feeling right for you. Anyway, if you've downloaded Z-Exemplar before and been put off by the controls I really hope you'll get the update and give it another go. All the best, Suminell.
This was a huge game changer for me.. My Drag was completely frozen and unusable. I had to use stat pad or dyn stick, either of which was rage-delete inducing. So.. This is most excellent and I am loving the game now!!! Many thanks for the controls fix..
Can someone tell me why the direction pad and fire button are beside each other? Why is there only a small piece of the fire button exposed? I can hit the fire button 90% of the time on my phone and I can't hold the phone with two hand on one side of my phone while barely hanging on. How do I move these buttons so I can play So I figured out how to Move the buttons which helped me with the fire but the directional pad is absolutely horrible. It's almost impossible to move where you intend on moving. There needs to be a stick on the right side so no matter where your touching it's there. And if you move your finger in a direction the ship moves. This game looks so amazing and reviews are incredible on some sites . I do not own a controller so the game is just dead
Indeed, playing the game using the d-pad is not ideal. However, the new DRAG option works really well. It's similar to relative touch controls in other shooters, with the main difference being that you can't just zip around the screen - your ship's speed is capped. Using drag controls, I've now explored 23.9% of the entire map, and have destroyed several of the idols to be found in certain levels (I'm 4th on the leaderboards). Absolutely loving this game. It goes right up there with the .Decluster games, and Bullet Hell Monday, as must-have iOS shooters. (Of course z-exemplar has a very different feel, and isn't a BH). What's most impressive about ZX is the way it has captured the essence of the shooters of old. The stunning pixel work, the sounds, the explosions, the way long-worm-like enemies explode one segment at a time... just the feel of it. It feels great to play. Hard to describe what I mean. Pro-tip: purchase the shield ability, and upgrade it to max. It effectively gives you 3 extra lives during a level. Another *extremely* useful upgrade is the Ship Refit, found at the far right of the upgrade screen. Takes a lot of time to upgrade to max, but I've now got instant missiles, instant pods, and instant probes. i.e. I'm fully powered up at the start of a level, and can concentrate on activating all 3 levels of my shield right at the start. Makes a huge difference, and makes the game much easier (it's still very challenging though).
Hi there, I'm afraid the drag controls are really designed for the left side of the screen with the fire button on the right. This is more due to the nature of the game than any grudge against left-handed players. Promise* Suminell *Though they are in league with devil and should nevet be trusted.
Decided to pick this up while on sale, and as feared, controls are terrible. There seems to be a fun game here but the virtual controls just ruin it. My suggestion would be for the developer to look at the relative drag controls on Skyforce Reloaded and try to emulate these. In Skyforce everything is so precise, here I keep bumping into walls etc and it just feels so sluggish because of it. I hope these can be improved but as is, for people who use virtual controls, I can't recommend this.
i think controls in this game really need to be fixed, they're really bad! ie, why the ship still moves also when i take my finger off the screen??? it's irrational!!! i love this game, please dev fix controls!
Grabbed this at the sale price of $0.99 Don't miss out on this one, space cadets! The only controls I've used so far are the 'drag' controls. They're working really well for me so far. Great game and a steal at this price.
Love this game. Bought it at full price to help the dev - would love a sequel ! The amount of 8 bit references and graphics is amazing. Well worth picking up
Retro-compatibilty is never taken in account by Apple when they issue a new IOS version. Microsoft used to say in the past "who can the more can the less" speaking about retro-compatibility. It is less true nowadays. Let's wait for the future Microsoft Surface pro which is coming with a competitive price tag.
The game works on ios11. I have it on my device but I presume the dev didnt renew his dev license sadly
