Sometimes I used iPod to snap pics, sure it's offline with no wifi connection. Then I go back home and connect wifi, it shows the right location where I took those pics... How does it work...?
I noticed my ipod keeps track of where I am as well, scarily accurately for not having a built in gps. From what I've read it is using the nearby wifi routers and their mac addresses to postion you. My guess is when the google streetview vans went through all the streets they were also capturing info on everyones wifi as well as taking their photos. I think apples using this to get your position.

Just watching the new South Park and I see it's based on this story and the new Ipad it's kind of amusing so far, it reminds me of when futurama did the same with the iphone. S015E01 if anyone else is curious.
