    I thought 2nd gen had a 256 RAM.
Well, I'm buying mine by the end of the month.

Did anyones iPod Touch 4 come with any dust under the screen or dead pixels?

I don't want to repeat what happened with my 2Gen.

well i dunno about dead pixels but unlike the gen 2,3.. the glass is glued onto the lcd screen:

    http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPod-Touch-4th-Generation-Teardown/3562/3

"The front glass and LCD are permanently fused together, increasing the cost of repairing broken front glass." also fixing any issues with dust getting under the screen id imagine.. probably the reason they started glue it to the lcd?

so id assume no dust under it.

But that's the same amount the iPad has.

And I'm just finding out about this, but did you know that a PSP only has 64mb of ram?

had a 2nd gen touch, picked up the 4th 32gb ipod touch omg its flat out decimates the old touch...

the retina display has to be seen to believed...

ya the camera is not the best but the video camera makes up for it

has a mic, like thinner sleeker look...

256mb of ram and same processor as ipad you cant complain if you want iphone 4 then buy a iphone 4....apple made the camera that way so they can get you to buy the iphone4 + the 512mb of ram...

apple doesnt want to hurt the iphone4 in anyway as they make the most money from that device, why the touch doesnt have the same case design as the iphone 4 they want to keep it as a touch and just that....

    LOVING THIS THING!!!!!!

IM FREAKING IN LOVE WITH IT.....i mean its an ipod, so i expected it to have worse camera quality than the iphone, but the RAM is a bit of a turnoff for me. I would have really liked to see 512 Mb. I get mine next week and can't wait!!!

No dust or dead pixels, but I do see some little dark spots on the bottom parts of the screen. But they're only visible when the device is off, and held under a light.

"The A4 in the iPod Touch appears to be a lower clocked version of what you get in the iPad, it only has 256MB of memory compared to the 4’s 512MB. Currently Epic’s Citadel demo treats the iPod Touch as an iPhone 4 and crashes before getting into the demo as a result. Epic should have an update out soon that fixes the problem by lowering texture quality to fit within the memory limits of the iPod Touch."

I was excited before when I just heard the news of it coming out, but I'm slowly talking myself out of buying one now and waiting til next year to see what comes out. I was looking forward to the camera, video camera, face time, retina display...really everything. I have the 3G my wife has the 1G so she would get my 3G and I'd upgrade to the 4G, but I think the still camera is useless and in terms of performance I'm not sure how much of an upgrade it would actually be. Anyway I really wanted the upgrade so I could record our little girls dance practice/performances as well as take pictures of her and our son. I'm really excited about the product because I think it will only get better, but I'd feel like an impatient child if I get it now and in a year it has a decent camera.

i have an iphone 4 and an ipod touch and at the risk of getting in trouble at work (iphone 4 is for work only, no games, no media what so ever) ill try to record a side by side video of Epic Citadel on both devices. The version without the supposed "Update"

Had mine for a day now, I am in the 'it's good but not great' sort of category.

The screen is nice, the camera is decent quality but two things are annoying me.

    1. games that haven't been upgraded for the retina display look noticeably worse on the new screen.

    2. games that have been upgraded for the retina display actually run a little slower. Madden for example chugs at times, something I never saw on the old iPod. Reminds me of how PC games chug and stutter when you don't have enough ram.

yeah its probably the lack of the other 256 MB of RAM....a silly thing not to include IMO

    Not necessarily.

Keep in mind the 4th gen Touch is very new and devs have not yet had a chance to finetune their apps for it. Frame rate issues could be simply related to certain variables needing to be adjusted for the particular hardware, not necessarily because more RAM is needed.

Personally I'm glad the Touch 4th gen is not exactly like the iPhone 4, because then it would cost more than I want to spend. I think for the most part Apple did a good job at providing a solid upgrade from 3rd gen Touches, and that is what people should compare it to.

I suspect it isn't the RAM. Retina display games need to push 4 times as many pixels around per frame - that's a lot of horsepower. Does the retina-enhanced Madden run any better on an iPhone4?

Does this mean that it will still run at best quality on iPhone 4? Hopefully this won't cause developers to reduce the quality of graphics so that their games will run on the 4th gen iPod Touch. Or will games detect the device and adjust the graphics accordingly?
