You know it's funny! I flipped out over the iPod Touch 3G. I got it primarily for emulation as it could do almost all the systems I wanted. I think it was when I heard N64 was being ported to 3GS hardware I bought one ASAP. I must say overall I am very, very disappointed in the purchase. I had an iPod Touch 1G back in 2007, I kept all the way up to the purchase of the 3gs back in December of 09. I remember Apple, and here at Touch Arcade everyone was flipping over the hardware. Mainly the fact that Open GLES 2.0 could be used. (Real Shaders!!) To my disappointment no developers truly took advantage of the 3gs graphic capabilities. With the release of the 4G I feel left in the cold. An upgrade from iPodTouch 1G to 4G seems awesome. But if an upgrade from the 1G to 3G is any indicator on how I'll react, I'm not going to bother. I'm also terribly sad that they didn't include a 128Gb option. IT's still just 8, 32 and 64. I have the 32 3G and there is no way I am paying $400 for 64Gb, I would rather pay $500 -600 for 128 Gb for sure. Anyway just my opinion, it's a hell of a device, and I look forward to playing with one sometime. Ohhh...I can't wait to run the PSX emulator on a 4g!! Whew!!
After all this blog, and after reading all the ifixit.com material, I still need to be pushed over the wall and be convinced that getting rid of my 3rd gen. ipod touch 64gb. for the new one is the beneficial thing to do! Cheap camera notwithstanding, my basic concerns seem to be the screen and it's [I don't know what to call it] when you touch it and it behaves like a lcd monitor and it looks rainbowish for a moment there. Do they do that? Can that screw it up permanantly if so? Most pepole I hear say the screen is great, but I don't know. Do games not made for retina display slow down and look inferior? In other words, is it at least as good as the one I have now? Does it run hot? Everyone seems to be comparing the new unit to older 1st and 2nd gen. ipods, but I'm only concerned with the difference between it and the 3rd gen. one. I understand the new functions are a step ahead and I'm having a hard time resisting buying one, but if it's not a whole hell of a lot better, perhaps I should sit tight and wait 'till the next one. I play games on mine for the most part, I guess and have around 500 games on it. I got rid of my consoles and this is my primary gaming unit! Actually, I don't think I've ever had one piece of electronics I've been in love with like this and I have lots of killer expensive toys. Cost isn't an issue here. I just want the better toy! It's that simple! What should I do?
I upgraded from a 1G and use to borrow a 2G from my GF all time. I have to say, once you go 4G, you can never go back. I cant really even play with my 1. The camera's open up a whole new world as well. The multitasking is pretty awesome too. I'd definatley recommend it, even over a 3G(which I tried, but didnt find too much aside from speed diffrent than 2G). The 4G runs intensly good by comparison.
Try Outside pictures, or in the car. I actually got a really clear picture of the Michigan welcome sign going 70 mph. No blur whatsoever. Then I took pictures from the window when it was raining, absolutley perfect. It does suck at inside pictures, but depends on the lighting.
Yes. They do that, if you press the screen REALLY hard. But any screen will do that if you press it hard enough. Some look slightly worse, but barely, and nothing runs slower, everything runs faster Generally, yes. I upgraded from a 3rd Gen and I couldn't be happier with my purchase, if cost isn't an issue, go for it!
Upgraded from 2G. Extremely satisfied overall. I am satisfied with the camera/video and there are some good apps that help with resolution/effects with pics when needed so no complaints there either. It was worth the wait.
local apple store out of stock. played on a demo one though, wow is it a big step up from a 2G! guess im just gonna have too wait...
Yeah, some young Monk in a monastery looked like he was trying out the video on his new ipod touch 4th gen. for the first time.
ipod 4g hey i have a question for all of you with a ipod 4g is the battery life longer and is it worth upgrading from my ipod 3g. I have been thinking about this and i need some opinoins.
Hmmmmm Ok thanks I another question for all u iPod touch 4g owners out there do the games that do not support retina display look sorta blocky on the screen or do they look the same?
A lot of games without retina display support are looking bad on the retina display. Especially the icon.
that's only if there is retina support. if there isn't, everything will be enlarged. Devs can also add a retina icon but not full retina support(tilt to live, facebook, etc).
