A lot of you act like the pad doesnt exist and games shoudnt be ported to the idevices just cause the screen is too small like forget that the pad exists. I read this a lot in comments. Well if you really learn how to use the pad it could become very close to a full computer replacement outside having to update it via itunes which can be done on almost anything like a library computer if u have no laptop near you in any country. I mean recently there has been a rush of television on the go appsnlike sling player (slingbox), the dish network app if u have dish at home: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2367469,00.asp http://www.tvpredictions.com/dishpad120110.htm And I recently discovered filmontv which is free to try out and like ten bucks a month for unlimited viewing. Go to filmontv to see i believe it also works on laptops but again laptops have crap battery life and are bulky and harder to set up. There is also the abc app which has so many shows daily to choose from snd hopefully more networks will make these ipad exclusive tv apps like it. Imagine being able to watch live tv in hd from anywhere inckuding airports, hotels, etc. As long as there is wifi. There are also so many magazines, and even free newspapers like nytimes you csn read and wall street journal etc. (not sure if paid or free). The size itself and the support due to the size not the actual technology or processing power is worth the money guys. If ur smart and u dont have a nice shiny hdtv at home or live in a small apartment u can save lots of money on tv bills. But this is why gaming has to tame off on it and more and more ppl will adapt imo. Adaption rates wont slow down and more apps like abc player will come out. Guys please encourage companies and indys to make games even if they wont run well on the other idevices, lookat how good world of goo is doing being exclusive, and just for the love of god get one already its worth it.
Also with the skyfire browser i believe you can watch streaming movie theatre movies from movies25 but dont wuote me on this. Some of them arenot bad wuality at all.
I'd rather just get a new iPhone (probably the one after the next). I can afford an iPad, but I just don't want it. It's too big for me as a handheld gaming device, I just don't see the point when I can play better games on my laptop which can do so much more. I can understand why some people like it, but it's not for me.
But at least quit asking devs not to port games just cause they dont qork on small screens like an ipad doesnt exist or something. Thats all i ask we need more exclusives anyway. Amd quitnpesturing devs like world of goo to port ipad designed games to iphone when itobviously would suck.
You cant deny that its way more comfortable, easier to use and esp not worry about viruses, and cheaper dompared to any good gaming laptop, and always has a better battery life. Its also more efficient for online magazine/ebook reading and watching tv and movies, and netflix well. Gaming is only one part of it. I dont believe the laptop has an abc app or an easy way via apps to accomplish so much. Windows is also so prone to viruses. If you know how to use it right it will actually save u lots of money and think of it as a tv replacement and u might not even want or need a blue ray player as well as all the new movies are on itunes.
The new MacBook Air's are small, light and portable, have a keyboard, usb ports, bigger memory, not sure about the battery length comparison; and most importantly within a week or so will have a dedicated Mac App Store with exclusive games of their own. Might be a more practical option for a lot of people that have been holding out on getting an iPad. So all the good about an iPad, all the better about having a Mac and no worries about the Windows woes of which you speak!
The mac has never been about games, and never will imo. The steam mac game section really sucks for example. Just take a look at it. And i bet the video card sucks for it snyway via bootcamp etc. Only blizzard and valve supports it. Also macbooks will cost you over a grand and again nit sure about battery life. And do they have dedicated apps like watching tv, abc player, magazine readers, thousands of ebooks, etc. If u want to doprofessional video editing it is also useless and u would need a mabook pro anyway, and if you have one why buy the air instead of the much more portable ipad as a complementary device? The macbook air isnt a very good complementary device like the ipad imo and it doesnt even have a cd player so its not a good standalone either. The ipad is way more fun, durable, easy to set up, can be used standing with one hand literally, etc. And if u have sny pos computer includng 10 yrs old u can set itunes on it as well and basically if u know how to multitask the ipad can almost do anything. Use goodreader to send multiple attachments in emails, download pics and upload them vis wordpress directly vis the wordpress app and wuickly multitask to upload it to ur blogmpost vis wordpress.com on safari, and multitaks back and forth, etc.
And actually i found out filmontv.com is free if u register dont know about hd though. If ur not a heavy tv user and need tnt, etc. Or sports but like a bit light news viewing, movies, etc. Using it on ipad can really save u money and esp if u travel all the time or life in a small apartment buying an ipad over a tv might also be a better option. And unlike with a laptop and if you have the cover that folds down to set it up, you wont look that ackward having a group of people watching something with you as long as its situated a couple feet from the couch. And 3g is kinda useless so just get the wifi version as there is free wifi everywhere now in cities including every mcdonalds, coffee shop, etc. Unless u travel foreign a lot or something the 3g isnt worth it imo.
Ok lets just put it this way, for casual and non professional users who have access to some form of dedicated pc, or as a complementary on the go or travel device there is nothing better. Can you go to ur kitchen and make a sandwitch while holding it with one hand and watching tv like u can with the ipad?
You should really stop making so many threads. All of them end up locked or trolled; none of them are useful. Is this thread going to accomplish anything? Oh, and no way am I getting the iPad. Now, I will refute you're points one at a time. The iPad's battery life is 6750 mAh. My macbook's battery is 5770, which is almost the same. Laptop's aren't bulky once you get to use them, and you want to put a laptop on a flat surface, but the iPad you want to hold in your hand, but it really needs two hands, so it is inherently unstable. I set up my macbook and a friend's iPad yesterday, they took the exact same amount of time, except I had to make an Apple account for the iPad, which takes forever.
I still think for casual use or for fun the ipad is much better and convenient. For tv watching, games, blogging, internet surfing etc. Also i forgot to mention the cnn app. You can have free tv and save on tv bills if ur smart with the ipad. Can you do that with laptops? I recall most ppl just sit on youtube with them. And you still need a mouse with any laptop as i havent seen a trackpad that works even close to as well as the touch screen or mouse yet. So if ur sitting in airport seats or plane seats or terminals how practical is it?
My dad has an ipad and doesn't even use it for games. he donloads a couple. he really only plays jenga boggle scrabble and clue
I'm an old school PC gamer, been building my own gaming machines since 1992. From my perspective, the iPad captures that "wow how did they do that" feeling that was in the early gaming years. Haters gonna hate, but the iPad has reinvigorated my gaming addiction!
Well, theres a slight chance he keeps pressing the W button by mistake, since the Q is right next to the W especially if that was on an iDevice.
Except the Macbook uses a good deal more power than the iPad and so will chew through battery life much quicker, so no, it isn't almost the same. Get a case with a folding cover stand or kickstand. Problem solved. I couldn't get by without the 3G, and I don't travel. I just like having a decently-sized screen with net access anywhere so I can browse or watch Netflix or whatever. However, keep in mind that streaming apps such as any of the US TV station apps (ABC, CNN, et al), Pandora, Film On TV, and many others, don't work outside the US -- they aren't even available on non-US App Stores and don't work outside the US even if you download them from the US store. Still, I do love my iPad. I didn't think I would really, but after my wife got me one for an early Christmas present, I found I really do. It isn't just a big iPod Touch; it does a lot of things differently and the larger screen real estate makes working in many apps (music, art, etc.) far, far better than the comparatively tiny iPhone screen. I even prefer gaming on the iPad, and have relegated my iPhone mostly to the role of casual pick-up-and-play games.
