I'd like to see a promotional video detailing gameplay before I buy it.. I mean, I've played Swords and Sandals, but I'm hoping the gameplay is a bit smoother and fluid than S&S.. Would be a little archaic to play something that's pretty much the same thing reskinned.. =/

The game is lots of fun, much deeper and challenging than it seems at first... Just silly enough to feel casual, but with lots of important decisions to make and battles become difficult pretty soon after you start! Or you might fall asleep and get robbed, or try to steal a sword you can't afford and wind up in jail, or so many other things! Really like the dice rolling element, it sprinkles just the right amount of luck on top of the strategic parts. And I love any game that is equally enjoyed by me and my ten year old son! Plenty to make you want to keep playing, because I am really pulling for my character to succeed, the silly bastard! #

I'm in my first tournament. We both dodged during jousting. Now I'm in a duel screen. But there's no interface. I can't advance, retreat, or attack. And I can't leave.

    Hey guys!

Firstly, I have to apologise - I'm aware there's a bug where icons sometimes disappear during the tournament. I'm working really hard on this and will have a patch launched ASAP. Also, GameCenter Leaderboards aren't working properly either but will be fixed in next patch too. Perils of being a one-man band, I'm afraid ... sometimes stuff eludes you.

As for the comment about the game needing 1GB of space, that shouldn't be the case but let me look into it! ( it's a 90MB download)

I am really thrilled people are playing the game, I'd love to read more reviews on it. I'll post a YouTube gameplay trailer later today - although the game has strong echoes of Swords and Sandals, there's a lot more depth to it with jousting, quests, little adventures and so on. So , if you liked the series but remain unsure, watch the forthcoming gameplay video and give it a try after.

    Many thanks again! Oliver

Just to be clear, I meant it didnt launch for me before I deleted enough stuff to have 1,1 gb free space after I had installed the game. Game is 104 mb installed. Ive seen this issue before with some other game iirc

Well. I wanted to enjoy this. But, early on, I'm underwhelmed. I'm not sure I'm going to give it much longer to sway my opinion, either.

I wrote out a longer review...but it was coming off as harsh, which the game doesn't deserve.

I just found that there weren't enough real choices. The path towards advancement was obvious and linear. Lots of battling and intermittent gear upgrades. Meh.

I'm gonna take the plunge as I loved and beat all the swords and sandals games.

    Will give some impressions later

Hi all, I've just uploaded a gameplay video to YouTube, it should give you a bit of an idea of the flavour of the game. You can check it out by clicking the link below. Thanks to everyone who's played the game so far, you're all knights of legend.

    Cheers, Oliver

So what's the point of doing ranged if you just get knocked off the cliff all the time? You can't leap over the enemy, shove isn't even one movement space away, and the ai only moves back with no stamina which tbh they shouldn't do since I'm technically defeated once I'm at the edge. Expected the ability to use my ranged and melee weapon during battle. Dislike the incremental shop as well.

Edited: Dev responded which cleared up some stuff. Still miss chopping off limbs though

Sorry you're not a fan of the game so far, I put a stack of work and love into it but it takes a bit of patience to get to some of the more powerful skills. If I can address a few of your issues:

    * Pump more points into agility and soon you'll be able to leap over your enemy.
    * Pump some more points into strength to push your enemy further
    * You soon learn a skill called 'grapple' which you can use to switch places with your enemy.
    * Another skill you learn lets you switch weapons from ranged to melee during combat

Anyway there's a lot more to the game than first meets the eye, you just have to give it time. I tried to make something that both kids and adults can enjoy , hence less of the decapitations. They'll be back of course with the next Swords and Sandals.

Wow much respect for the quick response! I came off as harsh. I've been on a business vacation so I probably didn't spend as much time with it before posting impressions but I'll play some more and revise what I said. On a whole the game is a lot of fun and it's good to hear my ranged strategy isn't just null and void so I'll keep going down that path

So far I'm enjoying it, although it's not without some flaws:

    Bugs:

The Princess doesn't give Stars. :)

    Transparency:

The game has three attacks although aside from the chance to hit, it's not always clear the damage & Stamina cost they would consume. (Or if/how your base stats affect these too.) Hopefully the game could be more transparent about it.

    Death & Random Events:

The -1 to a Stat is manageable (even if it has a tendency to make you weaker for succeeding fights--sometimes it's better to restart than to continue your game) but the -3 to a Stat from random events is too much of a setback (especially since there's no guarantee you'll get a +3 Stat random event anytime soon).

Other "traps" are the Tournament levels, as you can't level up unless you join the tournament, and if you keep on losing those levels, there's a chance you'll die and grow weaker (the -1 to Stat).

This is awesome feedback Charles, definitely a few conundrums I have to think about - the stat penalties on quests are a bit brutal at the moment and could be nerfed. Also with the death thing, I'm thinking of making that'lose a stat on a 2 or lower' because of exactly your reasoning.

I'll have to look at transparency on info of attacks too, I just have to work out exactly where I can show it...hmm!

    Cheers mate!

Looking forward to more feedback before I go on and purchase. Would be good if there is a lite version like S&S so we can try it out first since these games are lesser known with due respect.

    9.3/10 from Apollo Reviews

Hey everyone! For those wanting some first impressions of the game, there's a great review from new indie reviewers Apollo games. It's pretty detailed and they seemed to really enjoy the game.

You can check it out here if you're interested on seeing a little more of what You Are A Knight is all about.

    https://youtu.be/gRarmPjXlH0

Also, I'm working on patch 1.0.2 this week which adds a couple of new features, a bit of balancing and some bugfixes to the game. Cheers Oliver
