Trust me, if I felt there was something amiss, I'd be losing sleep over it until I found it. I honestly think that's it for now. I'd love to be proven wrong though. I actually used iFunBox to browse both apps and saw nothing that wasn't already on display to the user. I'd rather wait for an extra hint from Simogo that there is, in fact more to find than grow bitter and resentful of the game for not showing me all its secrets.
Doubt they'd give us another hint if there's really anything left. Well, I agree, let's come to an end. I'll also quit here since I went through everything I could see and have no clue, what to do, anymore. Yet - it was fun while it lasted.
This game was awesome! And is. Played it through 3 times ans I still enjoy it. One of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. A true contender for the "Games are art" cause. Anyone who is having second thoughts - dont. Its epic and you wont regret it.
One of the anagrams of the second one options i did came to "wait moore" Oct 10 = a Dec 10 = e Sep 30 = t Oct 30 = r Nov 30 = i Nov 11 = o Sep 11 = m Oct 11 = w Dec 11 = o
This kinda really does put the knockers on any third endings. But not sad, have played the best iOS game ever and happy to have been part of it. Have loved the speculation on here-really loved reading all the brilliant and creative thinking/ideas. Will still come on and snoop...just in case!
You know, I'm not so sure it does. At least, not in the widest sense. I was thinking about this earlier today. We know that we can do two runthroughs, one a lot shorter than the other, and we also know that there are only a few mechanisms that can have further possible combinations: - The walk around the church - The box combination - The companion lock If people have crawled the code and found nothing then those three are probably dead ends. This leaves one massive, bizarre unknown - Theodor's personal website. Why would he have a page with just the goat? Assuming it's not just a one-shot marketing tool designed to raise interest before the game started, what was there before? is it still there now? Are there pages that are unlinked but discoverable, and what might they contain?
It is the end as far as the apps go, as files have been explored with iFunbox and there is nothing there. But yes! Outside of apps-why not? Here's hoping the devs have seen the interest if they haven't created something...get creating!
I just was at Theodor's site. The goat is still there. And I know it makes me one of the hangers on, but I can't shake the thought that there's more involved here. Everyone can get the second ending, without much effort. Simogo mentioned that not a lot would get the "big treat". Whatever it is. So I'm willing to stick with it further just to see where things lead. There's a lot of little things left to sift through. At least I think so.
That, in itself, always struck me as odd. We've all been trawling this stuff since release and sharing notes. If one person finds it, everyone will. How can any 'big treat' be highly limited unless there's some unique delivery mechanism we don't know about, or unless the developers have a more hands-on approach to revealing it?
I think "highly limited" is a relative term here. I don't have download numbers, but what is the ratio of readers here or elsewhere to the total? That's still "few" in comparison. In my brain, most people stop right here: They got two endings, one which was less obvious than the first, and they're satisfied and go on to the next thing. The End. Supposing (and yes, it's a huge supposition) that there is more here in the sense of a sort of scavenger hunt, and that progress on what that "more" is goes much slower than the first few days after release, how many people do you think would still care to hunt? I'm guessing not many. I do think that the actual game you buy at the App store has everything it ever will have. That part is complete. Basically, I'm saying I'll stay with it and bat it around for another few weeks, and if nothing at all advances understanding or changes anything, I'll accept I was madly deluded and move on with my life. Sadly, I return to work now.
If there were any additional treats to be found, my money would be in year walking on those dates mentioned. At least that evidence is a little more tangible. I know I'll be walking again in March. Edit: Not the journal entry dates. I meant the end of the month. As Almsten underlined in his calendar; 31st is when the connection is strongest. I remember he scribbled some dates including March.
Could someone provide me a high res iPad screenshot of the church grim pretty please? Cloak closed or open if you can pull that off.
Not ignoring you Eogahn, I need to get to that part again first. I'm barely computer literate, so if I just take a screenshot from my iPad and then upload it, would I need to do anything more for it to be useful to you?
Thanks! I really appreciate it. And nope, I just need the screenshot, you can upload it to any website you prefer. I just played it again today, tried inverting the church combination, nothing happened. Figured I'd humor whoever suggested trying that. On a side note, is Simogo ignoring the entire TA investigative team or just me? Haha. Coz I've yet to receive replies from them after YW debuted.
this was an easy purchase for me as i love what they seemed to be going for in this game. i ended up playing through it three times in one day, sort of by accident. once was intentional, the second time was because i wanted to show my wife what the game looked like while we were on the train (and since i don't know about a restart function, we played through the whole thing), and then the third time was at night with the lights off. i'm usually not that great at puzzle games, and i usually end up looking at a guide online or something, but i was happy that i figured everything out on my own with this game (including the second ending). maybe it's the design, or something just clicked with me, but i was actually quite shocked that i managed it all without outside help. basically, i think this game is amazing. i'm completely satisfied with what i got (and got out of it), and have no desire to obsess over it, looking for weird clues like other people in this thread. the visual style, the way you play, the occasional jump scares, the sound...everything about this game bleeds style. it's a little early to declare 'game of the year', but i'm happy to say it's the best game i've played so far this year. as for simogo's comments about how few people will find 'everything', or how the next step is to think...let's just say very few, if any, of you will actually try year walking in real life. and if anyone does, it's not some secret that will allow everyone else to experience the feeling. the next step, and the only way to really complete the experience is to year walk yourself.
Well I finally finished the game today after not playing it for about a week and well I'm truly astounded at how much of a connection I feel to the game. Also I completely agree with putermcgee about finishing it without any outside help. Usually if I get stuck for more than 10 minutes I'd look up a tutorial online but with this game I felt that if I looked up a tutorial it would ruin the experience even thought the game was quite befuddling in some parts. Ok so now that I finished it I typed in the code on the companion app and got the journal entries and then used the symbols you find in the entries on the box in the game and got the second ending. Is that it? Or is there more that I'm not getting?
I was thinking this may have been an anagram for Theodor Almsten, bc many of the letters work. But too many letter in the second half!
Blergh. I think you're right. So, now I have to ask you all for a recommendation for a new game. (I know there's NOTHING like YW out, but give it a shot!)
I'm not sure if you have played it, but "Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP" is the closest game I can think of to the tone of Year Walk. It's an excellent game and I would thoroughly recommend giving it a shot. http://vimeo.com/20379529
