But it used to be before they turned towards the casual market. There were rumours that this was going to be a more advanced console and a way of getting back into the hardcore market.
I think this is their attempt. They've shown games such as Darksiders 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Assassins Creed, Ghost Recon, Battlefield and Aliens: Colonial Marines.
Well it all depends on the type of games it gets. Apparently in terms of some more popular games, ninja gaiden 3 was in the mini-film they showed.
Wow, did you really not get the joke there? Are you seriously that out to lunch? Try again, junior. Read the title of your post, then my response. It's like the oldest joke in the world.
"Details were scarce about the IBM silicon Nintendo's new HD powerhouse was packing, but we did some digging to get a little more info. IBM tells us that within the Wii U there's a 45nm custom chip with "a lot" of embedded DRAM. It's a silicon on insulator design and packs the same processor technology found in Watson, the supercomputer that bested a couple of meatbags on Jeopardy awhile back." -from Engadget Engadget also did a hands-on with the new controller, saying the 6.2-inch screen looked surprisingly good. Light and comfortable. Huge step forward in graphics; not necessarily ahead of the PS3 or 360, but certainly tons better than the Wii.
this is not a iPad like console... please Nintendo ALWAYS talk about the controller at the first place. remember the Wii? Nintendo break always the rules. Kinect, ps move? ok let's try somethings different with the "possibilities of today". tablet screen exist many years before the iPad remember. So why today ? because the cost of production is much lower. Nintendo just follow the wave this is a new console with a revolutionary idea for the gaming industry, streaming your game directly to the control device. it's definitively new. don't be stuck only with the look Alike iPad. be more creative. Game can be much more fun with friends, kids, your family and yourself.
Oh right. I haven't been watching the live stream, I just saw a video which showed it running some casual games.
Of course, by the time this is out, it's quite possible that both Sony and Microsoft will have unveiled their new consoles, thereby putting Nintendo significantly behind in the graphics department yet again. Though at this point, if Nintendo games were simply not hideous on HD TVs, it would be a very welcome development.
Too early to tell, but it's looked better since the end of the conference. The conference was terribly done. For a long time I was in shock, thinking they were just releasing a controller for the Wii. I was stunned. Only later when they ran a video of 3rd party devs talking did it become apparent that there actually was a new console. Weird. As far as the next Sony/Microsoft consoles... I'm not sure where they are going to go graphics wise. 1080 double-P? What's to say that the Wii U doesn't already top them in the textures, color and processing capabilities? We just don't have enough info to tell yet.
The control device which needs to stay within range of the console... meaning you could probably just look at the TV screen. Even having a different image on the controller (inventory/map/etc) seems unnecessarily complicated to me. I'm still holding off my final judgment, but if this is a revolutionary idea the same way the Wiimote was, they can keep it.
it's not a response to the iPad at all, Iwata specifically said it's not meant to a portable gaming device it's going to offer all-new gaming experiences though, all the tech blogs guys covering E3 are loving it
The new remote is for two main purposes: 1) If somebody wants to watch TV, you can switch over to the new remote and play on from there. 2) If somebody wants to play a different game, they can do so on the TV whilst you continue playing on the new remote. It's quite an innovative step.
You don't think this is overkill? Next thing you know they will be telling us that we want to watch a movie while having a T.V. show on while playing two games with our own music on, and maybe all while we eat dinner. Personally for me, I am either watching something or playing one game for entertainment. I don't know what the appeal of this is. If I am sitting at home on a couch near the T.V. and want to play a game, I'd rather it be on one large screen. Anywhere else, the truly mobile devices take care of that. But I guess we don't know quite enough about it to be sure. I'm just sharing my thoughts. If the console improves on the wii a lot, that is a good sign though. The wii and future versions have the potential to take over family game night for a long time to come.
