I've tried several music apps, including Beat Maker, and my favorite so far has been Xewton Music Studio. Among my many apps, including games, this is one that I return to time again for entertainment! Check it out! Great features! - I'll have to post a link to a song I've made soon. The dev has promised updates and has delivered some on a monthly basis, and I am certain that more will come soon!
I just checked out their website and listened to some of their demo tracks and they are ok. They all sound like low quality MIDIs to me though. I've produced much better tracks off Beatmaker. However, I did have to use Amidio's Noise.io to help me with those tracks, but still it sounds way better.
I don't care if anyone buys it or not, but I'll just share this personal experience. I bought Beat Maker first because the Xewton demos SUCKED so bad. They sounded so plastic and the instruments didn't sound "professionally sampled". But after getting a little disappointed with Beat Maker not having a piano roll, I decided to try Xewton, and I'm very very happy with it. Just as long as you don't play a flute at an unnatural low pitch, or a cello at an unnatural high pitch (keep the instruments within their normal range), and if you tweak the effects, you get pretty authentic sounding music. I have to finish up my song and post a link because the app has the potential of sounding much better than the demos, which were actually a huge turn-off for me too. I'd recommend this app to anyone who was looking for something like a mini-garageband, but if anyone was hesitant, I'd suggest to wait for an update that includes more instruments and sampling. I'll have to download Amidio's Noise.io to try that with Beat Maker.
I agree, Xewton Music Studio is amazing and the closest thing you will have to GarageBand in the iDevice. It's chuck full of so many features and easily justifies its $20 pricetag.
Man, now you guys have me wondering whether or not I should purchase Xewton. I'm just having one of those days where I just want to produce music to relieve stress. Any new experiences are definitely worth looking into. I'll maybe pick it up soon after the updates to see how much of a difference it will make. Any of your posted songs would help as well, to get an idea of what the app is capable of.
After asking the developer about the new update, I recieved a response and I thought I'd share it here: And the change log for 1.0.3
25% off for the holidays App info is currently processing and/or the app is not yet fully available for sale on the US App Store.
Im glad i waited a little!! When i was going to buy one, it said the app is being modified, on next day, it became sale, so i actually have free 5 bucks now so far this app is greatest music app ive ever bought!! Way better than beatmaker
Really good music app - hopefully the developer stick to his words and more instruments follow shortly. Some more drum sets needed!
I'd really love to see .wav import to a one track in a song. I just imagine what I could do if I could take a loop from Thumbjam, a drum beat from Beatmaker and throw em in the same Xewton project. Damn.
Also purchased Thumbjam - great app - as mentioned in the previous post - want to import the wave into Xewton - please dev.!
