It doesn't work on iPhone 4s. I have 7.1.2 and I've already tried, it only works on iPhone 5 and up and iPad 3 and up, sorry.

It's just a shame that I can't play the EW version on my iPhone 4. I could play XCOM: EU on my iPhone 4 and even managed to beat it in easy difficulty more than once! :p

The game is on sale but I really hesitate bying it after the XCOM: EU fiasco. They basically pulled off the game and never offered free codes for people who payed full price. I had a very long exchange of emails with 2K and they denied all responsibility. They even suggested that I buy XCOM: EW. I refuse to buy the same game twice and I personnally cannot trust them anymore. You basically buy a game at premium price and you have absolutely no guarantee how long they will keep supporting it. Many customers got screwed and I cannot forgive this.

I have purchased XCOM EW some months ago and I am not regretting at all!! It's one of my favorite turn based strategy of all time. Maybe the second best, after Fire Emblem on Wii. I don't have played the old XCOM (terror from the deep, etc) but this game surely is a great premium experience without any nonsense like ads, timers, f2p elements, etc! As an Advance Wars fan, I like this game better.
I would really like to have more games in AppStore like this. Today's sale / offer is a chance for you to realize that XCOM is brilliant.

    Dude, really???
When did you buy the first one? Like 2 years after it came out?

On desktop it's a separate purchase for EW as well you know. Why would they offer free codes!!! Not that they even can, but if they could why would they do that? It's cheap anyway really - why are you so upset man!

By the way. The very first thing I do is: After purchasing an App I download it on my Computer via iTunes ... so every game I have ever purchased is still on my PC and I can reinstall it if I want ...

Sorry, but that is the first thing everybody learns: Make backups from everything and never trust a cloud or something you don't have in your hands!

Weird. If he had a backup of the game in iTunes, he should still have it. So he can still play the game he paid for. New content deserves a new purchase in my opinion. It's how we keep developers in business. And anyway, he can pick the new app up at a super low price right now! I did, and I don't even have space to put it on my device right now.

You have to understand that this is how the digital marketplace works. Also, why would they give you DLC for the game for free? You do realize EW is DLC?

Should be able to redownload the game from the Purchases menu on either his iOS device or iTunes.

Yes but they released this at only $12.99 where as originally XCOM: EU cost $19.99 and I was one of those who paid that price the moment it was released. I don't expect them to give anything free but it's just kind of strange how they just dropped the old game, almost like it was an experiment.

They could have at least kept both games so we get updates.

P.S. EW is DLC on other platforms, but on PS3 and iOS it is not, it is a separate game.

The game can still be retrieved in the My purchased section, but it is no longer updated. Who says it will still work with the next iOS update? When I pay premium price, I expect premium support. I was happy with EU and never intended to buy EW. However, I am forced to buy the new app if I want the full experience (the older one is not supported and online servers are down too). This is not the way to deal with loyal customers and I expected a commercial gesture from 2K (even a discount code). Who says they won't do this again in the future?

I never knew EU was removed. Why did they pull it? Seems strange.

But yeah it's still in the purchase history.

Premiun support? This is downloadable content, you are being leased a license to use their product, that's it. Even if you paid for it, they owe you no obligation outside of giving you what you paid for. No one is king to keep updating something that is giving them no financial return.

I'm not saying what they did was right, and that you are wrong for being upset, but that you should understand this is how the online marketplace works.

    It's funny that"premium support"for many people seem to mean"lifetime support" :)

i do think it was a questinable business choice to pull EU but i totally understand the logic behind that.I can imagine it was not an easy decision.I can't blaim them here.

If someone (like me,i bought both more or less at launch) really likes xcom,he bought both games nonetheless i assume.

Personally,i don't care if EU runs on the next iOS,i think EW is the better game in all aspects. But i also understand if somebody, who didn't buy EW before, was disappointed about the pull.

But finally you can get help:just support an awesome game and buy it for 5 bucks now ;)

    i totally agree with you!

anyway, i had almost the same situation with Square Enix about their Lara Croft reissue, had also mails exchange, and they've acknowledged that i was right, 'cause the old version that i paid for was pulled from the store and re-released updated, but as the same game in the appstore, so finally they gave me a code to retrieve the new one.

kudos for Square... bad for 2K guys, obviously they don't know how to treat with customers!!!

btw, try to play the indie clone version of the original, Alien versus Humans, it's really good and you'll get the entire XCOM flavour in 40mb...

While I don't think it'll happen again... It very well could. Either way, I'd kill for more XCOM on iOS... So I guess another $10-$20 doesn't even really compare to those extremes. =o/

I guess it boils down to wether or not you want to see more of THIS in the future on the iOS. If the answer is 'yes', the best way to show support of that is by purchasing this VERY SUBSTANCIAL update to the previous version. If not, then move on. There's way too many games/devs in the AppStore to worry about supporting a dev you don't agree with or even want nothing to do with... Beauty of the beast. =oP
