I could lie and say I was, but no. I'm not being sarcastic. The truth is, it's the kind of game that I just don't enjoy, but I do want to see what it's like to play on a touchscreen device. $0.99 would be a great price to test it out at.
It's not my game either but i tried it during the $9.99 sale, And I'd say it's not bad on a touchscreen device. The game is actually awesome if you'd stick to it.

Should I hold out for inevitable release of Enemy Within or just get the recently discounted Enemy Unknown?
I'm not certain the release is inevitable (2K has been strangely mum on the subject), but my guess is still that Enemy Within would be added to the current app, not supercede it. Since the add-on really only adds stuff to the current campaign (EXALT missions, new upgrades, the mechs, new resource, etc), instead of providing an alternate story, offering an alternate app that is just in every way superior to the original XCOM might seem kinda... money-grabby Not that I would put that beyond the developer in principle (though so far, Firaxis has seemed like reasonably good fellas), but it might look bad enough that many would probably rather sell the expansion as an expensive in-app DLC.
I don't think EW will be ported to iOS as the devs said in their facebook page that they currently have no plans. I think it's because of the app filesize limit of 4gb iirc
You would think so, wouldn't you. But on the consoles you had to buy a new disk, rather than a dlc job.

Update is out. Hopefully fixed gray screen of death (last level). Edit: got confused from the price drop on the TA app with an update for another app. Sorry!!! Just wishful thinking it seems.
Same. Last update seems to have been: Oct 22nd, 2013 (Version 1.4.0). There is a price drop as of today though to make this $10. Tempting but I've heard people with ipad mini (A5 chip) have crashes.
Yeah I think I messed up. It was too early in the morning, sorry. Still waiting for that fix so I can finish the game and wipe from my device. Amazing game otherwise.
there's no chance of Enemy Within being added to the existing app because of the file size restrictions. but i would totally buy Enemy Within as a separate app for $10.
I hadn't bought it up to now because I thought it was a shooter, which really isn't my thing. Then I watched a YouTube video, and I am so glad I did. I bought it a few days ago and have done almost nothing else....and it's playing like a dream in my iPad Air. Loving it!
