For me it is playing perfect on my ipad 2.
So yes remove jailbreak, clear task bar restart device and you should be good to go.

    Noob question:
I can change the color of the globe when in misdion control, what is the meaning of that?

Put it this way: I don't think the developers were crazy for not doing it through a load/resume button, but neither do I feel embarassed for thinking that makes more sense - obvious load screens are common fare. I think a 'load' button would negate any confusion, but I don't particularly care now I know how it works.

I'm just glad all those tips helped someone.

As for having more high quality games like this, there are more great games on iOS that I have purchased (or gotten free) than I will ever have enough time to play. But hey I'd love more current console ports and stuff. My dream is one day Sega will port over Shenmue.

Excellent game IMO - this plus Knights of the Old Republic and lots left to do in Baldur's Gate mean that I'll have plenty of iOS gaming goodness to keep me occupied during my upcoming vacation.

However: I canNOT seem to figure out how to get my iPad 3 to load up (or even SEE) the iCloud saved game from my iPhone 5. I've saved the game SPECIFICALLY to the iCloud slot on the phone, and have used the "refresh iCloud" button on my iPad, but it still ignores the fact that there's a file in there, ready to load. The iPad itself sees the file in the cloud, but the game ignores it. I've tried shutting down and restarting, but it still won't refresh in the game.

Help would be appreciated ... my eyes are going all cross-ways from playing on the phone!

    Thanks in advance - Rob

Dumb questions out the way - icloud is logged in to the same account and you have document sharing enabled? Loading from the same save-game slot (not sure if this matters myself)?

Yes to both of those questions ... which is why I'm confused that it is not working.

Seeing as there is a high majority of people who have no problems running it from the iPad 2 or Mini, it could be something with the jailbbreak. That's the huge problem with JB and running high end games. There's nothing preventing the tweaks to run rampant and do who knows what, leak memory or hang things up in the background.

What do you have for free ram before and after you run the game?

I have my iPhone 5 jailbroken and Xcom takes up at least 300 megs, and with a handful of tweaks (the biggest being Auxo and Lockinfo) I generally have 650 free after a reboot. Cut that in half for an iPad 2/mini and you are leaving everything that hasn't been taken over by the system with what, 30 "free"? That's a really small amount and I'd be surprised it gives enough to not cause issues.

Yes... Wait, what? We were talking about... SQUIRREL

I noticed this too, I'd like to know the same.

Honestly, I don't see how much more they can compress this game from its original size. They have already compressed to such great lengths as it is from the original versions which are well over 10 gigs. They have already gotten enough comments about texture quality and lack of shadows and dynamic lighting as it is in their quest to compress this game just put it on the mobile platform so keep all of this in consideration when asking this question.

Highly unlikely: the game is already far smaller in size than the PC/console versions, and had to cut out content and lower the asset quality in order to reach that size. There are further gameplay additions due to arrive in later updates, however, so if anything you're more likely to see the app continue to increase in size, rather than decrease.

Look this game is amazing and I've really enjoyed playing it this last week but its so difficult that I'm giving up and moving on to something else!

I've started about 6-7 games and always had a rough time getting satellites up and keeping panic down, and had some really rough maps where alien units literally beam into the middle of my team ( all in cover and on over watch ) and hit my best units with a one shot kill! Grrrr...

It feels like the game is cheating on me and suddenly ramps up the difficulty all of a sudden. I'm so frustrated that I'm giving up... I'm sorry I don't have hours and hour of spare time to keep on trying to beat this game.

    XCOM you win!

What difficulty level are have you chosen?

As for everything else, it takes serious strategy and planning. If your people are getting killed in one shot, you're not researching the necessary things properly. You've got to prepare using serious armor and you need to do it quickly, as well as prepping support people with medkits and increasing their ability to heal and recover those who are almost dead.

The best suggestion I have would be to drop down the difficulty. I started on easy to best get how the game works and if I feel the desire to play another game I'll do it at a higher level.

I am almost into 3rd council meeting my best armour is carapace.. I am still getting one shot killed by muton and the spiders.. It really depends on the luck.. Those aliens may get lucky and crit you especially if you are a rookie.. I have been reloading far more than I wanted.. Grrrr

All in all I am happy with my performance first meeting got an A second B.. Now waiting for 3rd should be good!! Coz I have enough satellites and I raided an alien base and one big UFO.. Manage to capture 3 sectoid commanders.. Btw these commanders are nasty..I think the idea is to get close to them as much as possible.. Shrug

    1. Drop the difficulty. Don't think you have to man up just to prove something... If a difficulty is too hard to the point that it is causing you to not enjoy the game then drop it down to a difficulty that will. No sense in throwing away a game just because you refuse to play it on easy...

    2. Make sure that you're doing smart research investments. If your units are taking too much damage then perhaps you should invest in developing a certain type of armor that would benefit. Likewise a certain type of weapon category that would benefit them. Don't spread yourself thin, maintain focus on what you want to achieve and what your goal is to develop as you're limited early on in the game in the way of resources and can't afford to just research any old thing. The same goes for manufacturing. Don't overproduce what you don't need. Only produce enough inventory to supply your available away team so that you're not wasting money with weapons sitting in a stockpile. You can stockpile later when you start raking in the dough.

    3. Make sure that you're outfitting your soldiers accordingly giving them the best armor available weapons available, and accessories that would benefit them in the field. This also goes for class appropriate gear that would benefit certain classes more than others. Don't waste your time giving a sniper grenades when a scope would benefit him better, for example!

    4. Make sure that your teams are working in elements and make sure that every role is filled. Know that certain situations benefit from certain type of units and other times it's advantageous to have a well-balanced team. Make sure that your units are working in tangent and make sure a unit is never spread too far away from the rest of the group as to isolate them. You should think of this tactically as if it were real life. Move units together as a group, know to flank and supress effectively, always stack up teams before entering doors, know when it is tactically advantageous to frag out or use a launcher, etc. You don't want to send lone wolves out on their own on the map. You want to make sure that you have at least a two man element assessing any situation in a direction and most the time you want all of your units grouped together spaced well enough to assess any combat situation in a combat formation; always moving forward and in the same direction in a combat sweeping formation as a group unless the situation demands otherwise. Don't leave your units to go one for one with any alien as that is bad tactical plan. Spreading your troops out thin will only thin out the number of troops that return home alive.

    5. If you're not using cover every time you move, you're asking for your units to get smoked!

    6. Elevation and positioning are important and add bonuses and penalties. Use it to your advantage. Tap on a unit and read their bonuses and penalties. Use this to better assess tactical situations.

I actually wany to ask the other way around.. I'm hoping the devs release like a higher texture pack or something that enables more of the console content (higher textures, missing videos, missing closeup cams and kill cams, maps, etc). Extending a game through an iterative update isn't constrained by size by Apple right? Just the initial release?

Good question and I am not sure, though I do believe they plan to add some of the PC content at some point from what I have read so it is not out of the realm of impossible. I think the biggest problem is just the memory management of these devices which may be the bigger constricting factor!

I guess, at this point, the only way XCom can shrink in filesize is if the developer demakes it and releases that as a separate app...

Query: what contents have been cut from the iOS version? I am only told the media part is on lower quality.

I've been playing on my iPad Mini and iPhone 5, so far so good, framerate looks fine, and I'm usually insanely picky. No crashes so I'm happy *knocks on wood*. I'm about an hour in. Glad I re-bought this, I regretted trading it in almost immediately.

Answer: two maps, customizable unit colors skins, many of the skins in general,a dn all around just compressed and lower quality everything... And yet it is still a good game!
