I do! I'm not even a strategy game fan, generally speaking. Got excited about XCOM when it was first announced for iOS and wanted to see if it would be worthwhile (knowing from those announcements that it would come with a relatively hefty pricetag) so downloaded AvH. A bit too fiddly for me at the time but I knew XCOM would streamline it a bit so took the risk. Really glad I did (after Walking Dead, this is the most gripping gaming experience I've had on iOS), and now I feel more prepared for the earlier game.
I think no matter what, you're going to loose countries during the game, the trick is to minimize it. In my first game, I didn't realize I could buy new interceptors in the different territories until it was too late. They're not that expensive, so that's an easy way to keep the panic at bay a bit. Other than that, make sure you build the prerequisite structures so you can order satellites as early as you can. I've just started a new game now that I better understand this aspect of the game. Another thing I've realized, is that it's a good idea to prioritize research of alien corpses and live specimens as they're fairly quick and give some awesome tech to build. A tip I've read several places that I plan to follow this time through, is to go for plasma weapons as early as possible and skip laser weapons, as lasers aren't that good and plasma is awesome. I hope someone will post a link to a good strategy guide sometime, this game is very deep.
Invade the alien bases will remove 2 levels from all countries.. Building satellites help remove 2 from the nation.. If I am not wrong.. Always keep satellite handy.. They take awfully long to build with 17 engineers.. I think it goes down with the number of engineers. I don't have many engineers as I focus on science
Don't you need to research Beam Weapons for an improvement to Interceptor weapons (Heavy Lasers, I think)? Or will completing Plasma Pistol and Rifle research open up corrsponding Interceptor weapons as well? Is there really no benefit to researching Lasers? (selling laser weapons manufactured for money, cheaper weapon costs, etc)?
I was happy with my laser weapons until i researched plasma weapons. Until you have researched plasma and have enough resources to build those weapons, lasers were a good gap filler. But i never have tried to go directly to plasma. And a free tip which was helpfull for me (and maybe obvious for others): during tactical missions give the overwatch order only after you have moved every single soldier. Maybe your last move uncovers some aliens and you are happy to have your soldiers ready to shoot. And of course use the bonus for facilities built next to each others (horizontaly or verticaly) for every friggin possible facility.
Not true, on my first play through on console I never lost a country on classic. You just need to address immediate threats as they occur and also take on a country that is closets to panics threat when given the choice of immediate dangers. Keep in mind that rewards offered sometimes seem put there to dissuade you for making the good tactical choice over the beneficial one. Good satellite coverage and an interceptor in each country minimum is a must as early as possible. Also, attack alien bases and it is like a big drop in the threat/panic level across the board for all countries, so never skip those missions when they pop, as they often do so when you levels are getting hairy! Buying interceptors is one part of the strategy to be sure, but the other is making sure your have researched the weapons to make them better since as you progress along, ships will get bigger and harder to take down, so you will need a better bird and weapons. As for Plasma weapins, yes, go for the,, I even said this earlier in a thread to so done else.Laser is not worth it nearly as much and the only benefit of e searching it is to open up so e other development and to get the research achievement.
I've owned Aliens Vs Humans for some time now... Stumbled across it while looking for a proper Xcom alternative on iOS. It is a great game no doubt! But this game was a must buy for me regardless... It was never an either or decision like some folks have chimed in earlier here commenting (mainly about price). I owned the 360 version and when it was announced for this platform I had to have it again!
I not too sure about that.. Didn't keep track of laser weapons but I know I captured many aliens so those plasma pistols and rifles are free if I research them early.. Btw you can sell your inventory? How do I do this? It's doesn't show up on the grey market -' I missing something?
Yeah this I agree if there's anything bad to say about this game.. It does drain your juice.. I am running on iPad retina.. A 15 mins play can drain like 5-10%
I have plasma weapons for interceptors unlocked, I didnt go through beam weapon research at all so I can't say which is better. Though if you want plasma rifles, I suggest just killing every enemy but one, suppressing this enemy while getting an assault or support trooper into position, then up having that guy stun them with the arc thrower. I have gotten 6 light plasma rifles and a few alien grenades this way.
I'm not having a lot of luck on my iPad 2, unfortunately. Though I've only tried playing once. I did the tutorial and then the game crashed during the cutscene. I booted it back up and it picked up where it left off, but after the cutscene I was left with a black screen. I could hear sounds, but no picture. I will try again another time, but I might just wait until there's an update. Has anyone else with an iPad 2 bought this game? Better luck with it?
Those with both an iPad Mini and an iPhone 5, which device are you using? Or do saves transfer over in the Cloud? How is the performance in comparison? Wondering whether to get this ... iPhone obviously has less screen estate and don't want to get cramps from running this on that. But I don't want bad performance either.
I took the plunge and bought the game after reading the rave reviews. I am not dissappointed. The game is very good. I wasn't really to fond of the turn-based games before this, but this one is great and I cant stop playing it. It might get me back to trying some others again even. Love the strategy needed, visuals, and the attention to detail in the game. I played it on an ipad mini without any crashes so far. However, I tried it on my ipad2 and it has been crashing after each mission. Also, I saved the game to the icloud from my ipad mini, but it does not show up when I try to load it on my ipad2. Of course I am logged in with the same account. Despite the crashes on my ipad2, and missing icloud saves, I really enjoy this game. It is a rich experience.
It's definitely weird that their mouths don't move (except in cutscenes). Otherwise, though, the game looks good. It doesn't look as good as on Xbox, but it still looks good. I just hope to have the game running reliably on my iPad 2 at some point. Hopefully after an update?
Dunno how it would crash a lot on your ipad 2 when it has the same specs as my ipad mini. I remember there was one here who had an ipad mini and said it was unplayable.
My iPad 2 is jailbroken (and running, I believe it's 6.1.2 - whatever the latest jailbreakable version was). Maybe it's only problematic on jailbroken iPad 2s? Hopefully some other iPad 2 owners, jailbroken and not, will chime in so we get some data points.
My ipad2 is not jailbroken but the game was still crashing on it. It was not crashing on my ipad mini.
