I can't carry my iPad in my pocket either it won't run on my iPhone 4. Also it's an iPad 2 - if I had an iPad 4 it might be different - better framerate and retina graphics. Portability is one of the reasons I don't really use the PS3 much any more - it's so much quicker and easier to play a game on iPad than on PS3 - plus you don't even have to stop playing to go to the loo, it's like living the the future! You can get a free code for 1 month PS+ on the Playstation facebook page (in the EU at least). But it would be nice to have this on iPad...
No, it's the game specifically. Not sure if their servers are simply maxed for what they can deliver on this game or what, but I've been trying to buy it all afternoon from the US. EDIT: Whatever the issue, it finally resolved itself and it is downloading.
I almost passed on this due to a few comments regarding performance. I have been playing all day on an iPad 3 (64g... plenty of free space), and I have yet to notice any frame rate issues. Completely blown away by this game (never played this before on consoles).
Just checked in the AppStore and it's now up for featured. It looks like Apple was really having problems with XCOM's launch huh?
Looking like it. I dl'ed it last night when I went to bed. Looking forward to some quality time with it later this evening.
Just by Looking at the AppStore reviews (194), xcom is doing well and not even counting people who don't write reviews iOS gamers are not too stingy after all
Fuuuuu This game is annoying to download at 1.8Gb. I tried to let it run last night and it got 3/4 and times out. Now have to start all over again, when usually it resumes from where it was. Not this time.
Encountered my first bug: Went to the Situation Room and the screen went completely black while the music still played. Had to force quit the app. One thing I'm having trouble with is moving soldiers to different levels. I can eventually get them on top of roofs or buses but can they climb on top of crates and park benches?
Hey guys. Sorry, I tried but this thread is too frickin dense. Can anyone tell me how this runs on iPad mini?
Wow the maps are randomly generated too!!! Didn't know this until one of my squad got crit hit and I reloaded from start... This game totally rocks
My report on iPod touch fifth gen performance: Device is a 64GB 5G touch running the latest stock iOS 6 version. It has roughly 225 apps installed on it. Downloaded XCOM .ipa to my PC iTunes, and installed from there to my touch, having over 10GB of free space at the time. When it was done installing, free space was down to 7.5GB. Cleared the task bar of all running apps and rebooted, and sat down to see how it fared... I have now played completely through the first 2 missions and am pleasantly surprised. I have had zero crashes, and controls are perfectly responsive. There are no issues with selecting troops, issuing commands, etc., beyond what the engine itself creates (e.g. the wonk of getting the camera to go indoors or on a roof when you want). Now, animations often hiccup and there are obvious skips where frames get dropped when this happens, but this is a turn based game. It would indeed be a lot prettier to watch if combat animations were butter smooth, but when you consider that until today things like Hunters 2, Danger Alliance Battles, and Call of Cthulhu were the epitome of turn based squad combat on iOS, I can forgive the graphical hiccups. Which is all a way of saying: Hell yeah, it runs acceptably on a 5G touch!
