No conspiracy they are stopping support for devices they don't sell anymore even though there are still older less capable devices being supported because they still sell them aka 3GS.

I don't know why you would claim that's a conspiracy theory it's very plainly just fact.

edit: Looking into it more it's debatable if the 3GS is actually still being supported they seem to be missing almost every new feature anyway.

The iPad1 is just as powerful, if not more than the 3gs or touch4. This is to force you (and me) to upgrade. That is all. Early adopter, thnaks for making the ipad a hit, now go spend money again 2 yrs later.

Do I see any reasons here for me, as an iPod Touch user, to be excited for anything? Nope.

I'm fairly sure that this is only for FaceTime video calls. You're just adding your phone number as an identifier in the same way you can add multiple emails for iMessage.

You initiate a call with a friend and any device they own which is capable of FaceTime and is linked to your AppleID/Phone Number/Email will ring.

Actual cellular phone calls will stay on the iPhone... Unless you use Google Voice and Talkatone like I do ;)

Really disappointed that they didn't mention anything of a "clear multitask bar" or a "disable multitasking" setting. Maybe it's one of the "Over 200 features... we didn't show you".

Happy that Facebook is being integrated more, also saw a picture off of IGN that gives you WAY more options on a photo (Where you can post it, etc.)

Glad you can now launch any app with Siri. (That's something that should have come with Siri).

    sadly..

we mainly get a new maps app to play around with, facebook integration and the pass app...they work but ipods are wifi only so i dont see myself using them often, if ever.

hopefully the ipod touches are upgraded this year. the specs haven't been updated in 2 years and that is really evident in current engine-heavy games and such. fortunately this update seems to be mainly about apps unlike ios 4 and 5 ,with multitasking and notification center requiring constant processing power, so performance for the 4th gen shouldn't take a huge hit.

They still sell the 3GS? I see that they do. Did not realize that.

Yeah, but I doubt I'll upgrade anyways unless they give me a reason to. I upgraded to iOS 5 for more games and there were a couple better features I liked (more settings options, ability to delete music on device, wifi sync didn't hurt). Right now there's like nothing.

To be quite honest, outside of the maps app and the needed Siri optimization, there's nothing interesting at all to me in iOS 6 from any perspective. I'm hoping this isn't Apple slipping and starting a down streak.... Hopefully there's more when it actually comes out.

The maps app looks good, though. Not such a big deal on an iPod touch. For iPhones it's great. It's not out until Fall, so more stuff will become apparent with time. Some just once devs get their hands on the beta.

And yeah, I guess it's correct that they provide the OS update to devices they still sell. Fortunately it's not like the older devices stop working, they "just" don't get iOS 6. I guess my iPad 2 gets iOS 6 and may or may not get 7. iPhone 4 may get 7. I am planning to upgrade my phone once the new one is out anyway, which isn't really related to OS version.

Yeah it's still a good phone that can do pretty much whatever is wanted, they use it as a lower priced handset to try and tempt people away from Android although I suspect the 4 might be moved to that position once the iPhone 5 hit's.

Can't really blame Apple for only supporting what makes them money but I can understand iPad owners in particular being a little annoyed.

That new Macbook Pro looks nifty. First Macbook Pro I've ever wanted, but I'm not sure I can justify the price...

The new MacBook Pro sounds awesome, but I'm still more interested in the Air, which is not only a lot cheaper, but much lighter and smaller. We're probably going to buy a last gen 11" refurb, since those are cheaper now than they were before the keynote. $850 for a 4 GB/128 GB SSD. Since it's primarily for my wife, that will work fine and it's in our price range.

iPhone 4 (and earlier) don't get turn-by-turn nav nor flyover. :( See bottom of iOS 6 Maps page at Apple. It's only for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 or later. I was going to upgrade to the next iPhone anyway and that will likely be out at the same time anyway. I have TomTom and it works well (including offline) for the 4 now.

Is the 13 in MacBook pro fine for developing? ( the $1099) I can not afford the retina.. And is Siri coming to iPod 4 gen? Lastly, does té education pricing work for upcoming 9th graders, because it worked when I tried to see the price?

I really think the new maps app is going to be truely awful, apart from my first impression of them lacking detail, I've seen satellite images from the UK that are so blocky you can't even tell it's an actual map, also just read this over at Gizmodo , they even have continents and entire oceans named wrongly.

While I was writing this I found a few comparison pictures someone has made up, of exactly what I'm talking about

It's a beta. I'm sure there are problems with it now. It won't be out until the Fall.

I did end up buying a refurb last gen 11" MacBook Air (4 GB/128 GB SSD) and they shipped it in one day even though I took standard free shipping! It arrived yesterday and it's pretty great. Slick, light and fast. SSD is definitely the way to go. I'm sure the new one is better still, but the last gen is great too.
