@midian, I alteady deleted most of those posts there within a couple of minutes after you reported them. Missed that one post somehow. And how the hell did u not notice the time-out under the guy's userid? About your other complain, its called unsolicited spam. Kidd sent a PM to someone who didnt even know who Kidd was. Do you think it'll be cool to start PM'ing every random stranger on the forums telling about the latest awesome game you found? You may not be affiliated with the game and your intentions might not be anything more than sharing your find, but it's still spam if you send it to strangers. And an infraction is nothing more than a PM warning. It's not like people get banned after X number of infractions here. @tiltmytouch, The same common sense would have told you not to pester the dev anymore after they already decided to not respond to your PM, dont you think? Anyways, i didnt ban you and agree with he fact that it was a little unfortunate. Whoever banned you shouldve just reminded you that its not cool to keep on pestering someone.
@INSM - First off, again, I appreciate your efforts, and all the other moderator's here, since like I said earlier, this forum is definitely one of the better ones I visited. But I don't think you understood the nature of my communications with the developer. I had posted ONCE in the thread specifically targeted at the developer, and the post was quickly forgotten under a pile of other posts. If you have been keeping track, or ask anyone active in the thread, the Tiny Tower thread moves quite fast. Obviously, because continuing to keep spamming the thread with a message for the developer seemed hopeless, I decided to PM them. I really do not believe that would be considered "pestering".
He PM'd me too. I didn't know who he was but I was glad he'd read enough of my posts to feel he could recommend a game to me. It didn't take much to figure out it wasn't self-promotion. I considered it a friendly gesture and now we're on good terms, even talking on AIM occasionally. I find it strange to suggest you can't PM someone who hasn't officially classed you as a friend or associate beforehand. Sounds like whoever reported it was just being an ass.
Some people just don't like it when strangers try to contact them online. Doesn't mean they are being an ass. And in the end, it's just an infraction. Not really a big deal. Just a reminder to not do it anymore. @TiltMyTouch, well, not gonna argue much. I still don't see the need to post in the thread after you've already PMd the dev. But it wasn't something worth a ban. Nothing can be done about it now so Let's just ignore that it happened. Lots of new releases today (both in NZ and otherwise). Should be enough to keep you busy until you forget about it Btw, infraction sent to booch138 for being too cool for these forums!!!
I know it's not really a big deal, but isn't it sending out the wrong signal to users? We're supposed to be part of a community, it's that very aspect that means the forum survives and if you start punishing people for being friendly and social it's not going to help much. It's quite easy to disable Private Messaging so you can't really complain if you leave it turned on and recieve one.
Oh, I posted before the PM. I only PM'd because I knew posting in the thread wouldn't get their attention. But yeah, I'll let it slide now, this was very odd though and it shouldn't happen again.
On a forum?! A community you sign up to almost exclusively to communicate with like-minded people? I consider you and I to be on relatively good terms but this is the craziest thing I've ever heard from you We're all here to share and converse with one another and you're telling us not to. There's an option to opt out of PM, which strongly implies that not doing so will result in other forum members occasionally contacting you for various legitimate reasons, and that this is considered the norm. There's a way to report abuse, but merely being spoken to in a polite, friendly manner by someone who isn't trying to solicit anything whatsoever can hardly be considered abusive. Spam is generally considered disruptive or commercial in nature, and anyone who thinks getting a friendly tip from a fellow forum member is disruptive or commercial needs to rethink their stance on... pretty much the whole of the internet.
It's an unsolicited message, which is spam. It's no different from someone joining the forum and randomly sending you a PM for DVD conversion software which seems to happen on an hourly basis. Anyway, this thread has served its purpose.
