was a bit unrealistic but i found that entertaining. i am reading the gatekeeper series by him. Amazing
Yeap, Alex Rider should have ended with Scorpia, it would have been sad, but a nice rounding off point for the series. Artemis Fowl books are just edible fiction I agree, although with another novel coming out soon I do wonder how long he can keep stretching the story for; even if he is doing a grand job of it so far. "And Another Thing..." was decent though, better than I expected. It could have been a lot worse anyway. edit: Ah I read the first one in that series ages and ages ago, and I bought the second one but never got around to reading it. Might have to go dig those out of storage tomorrow. Is the series turning out well?
Always loved the Artemis Fowl series as they were the first series I really got into. Glad to see there are no J.K. Rowling or Christopher Paulini nominations... I'd have to nominate Phillip Pulman (Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and the Amber Spyglass), mostly because he's not afraid to write what he wants too and I personally consider that trilogy to be the best (yes, I liked them more than LoTR) trilogy around. Also I'd like to nominate George Orwell because Animal Farm is still my favorite book to date. After Pullman and Orwell, Steven (Stephen?) King gets the nod due to "The Stand."
How come? J.K Rowling I understand. Her books have been pretty much to literature what pop is to music, but Paolini put a shitload of effort into his books, and it shows. One of my favorite series, just disappointed that's it's been moved from good fantasy to something teens read when they're tripping acid and have to write a book report the next day.
Paolini was fine in his first book, it was actually even good. Then Eldest came out and it wasn't as good of a read. And finally Brisingr came out and it's dialogue was cheesy as hell... I didn't even get past the first five chapters.
I have not got to Kerouac yet, however I do have a copy of On The Road somewhere that I am looking forward to reading.

I don't read all that often, but when I find a good book I usually enjoy it a lot. So a couple of authors that wrote some really great stuff: Edgar Allen Poe (c'mon... those are some great stories) Max Brooks That's about it when it comes to looking for specific authors. I'll generally read a book or story by anyone, but those are the two authors whose works I know I'll enjoy.
