I mean for a full game, just like on the DS or PSP. I would pay 20$+ for a game like GTA CW, would you? Have you had enough of games like Modern Combat, great games that can be finished in a few hours? What if Nova was going to be as big as Halo, would you then pay 20$ or more?
I can't wait to see what Rockstar is going to do, maybe they'll break the mold? Bethesda is also suppose to do something for the iPhone, maybe they are waiting for the market to change?
Missing option: No, because $20 is still too high for an electronic copy of a game, signed to only work on my device(s) and only available from a service that may pull and/or change them at any time. I still feel that iPod games are like a long-term rental. Nintendo can't sneak advertisements into your game, or take the cartridge from you. The only case I've seen where they've made games not work was the Wii update that stopped the old Gamecube Action Replay discs stop working...
Ok, but the online PSP games are still more expensive than the same ones on the apps store. GTA CW is 30$ I think, it's unlikely it would be the same for the iPhone. Same with some of the Xbox live games like Peggles...
That really sucks. Aside from the awesome screen, the PSP didn't impress me at all, and it's even less impressive looking now that the new one is both more limited and more expensive...
GTA: CTW is $39.99 on PSP...both in store physical copy and PSN digital download. But the reason it, and games on XBL, are as expensive as in store is due to the fear that Sony and MS have over brick and mortar retailers getting pissed at them for selling DD games for less. So they just don't really sell the DD games for less at all, thus not angering those retailers...but, of course, angering PSN and XBL consumers. I don't think $20 is necessary, tbqh. Not for this market, not for the type of games that appeal to this market for the most part. They aren't PSP or DS style longer playing games, but short, quick burst games. $9.99 has pretty much been "set" as is as well. I think what we'll see Rockstar do is go $9.99, but either only have part of the game for that amount (with the rest in app purchase DLC), or release the first mission free as a lite version, with in app DLC for the rest of the game. This is both to hit the market for price but also as piracy prevention.
I'd pay that high (and even more) if Bethesda brings a full fledged Elder Scrolls game to the iphone.
An Elder Scrolls game would be amazing. About the fact that the iPhone has download games, not physical disks or cartridges, sometimes makes it hard to see yourself playing the games in 3-4 years in the future. I'm going to try to keep it as long as I can, but there will be the next big thing in portable gaming in a few years. And that thing, even if it was from Apple, probably won't support this generation of games. It's not like Nintendo, being able to put Gamecube games in the Wii. ---------------
I don't know.. can't speak for other companies but I'd be surprised if Apple does not keep the iDevices backwards compatible. The appstore is their holy grail, their not going to want to piss off consumers by coming out with a new iPhone or iPod touch that doesn't support existing apps. People like me, would either have to re-shell out a whole helluva lot of cash to get our app catalogs back, or would never consider upgrading to a new non backwards compatible device.
If it were built from the ground up on the iPhone, and not porter from some other platform, and provided a good gamin experience. I'd consider it. However, los of the companies on the app store that make games are pretty small, and don't really have the resources to make that kind of game. Rolando and the stuff from gameloft, etc is great, but you still essentially get a short cell phone game. The stuff EA is releasin are just ports takin advantage of a new platform with significantly lowered standards compared to others. And arguably the most anticipated game, GTA, is still an after thought, something they decided because it would reach more people. Most of the money porting that probably went to the PSp version. So basically, as it stands now, a company charging $20 for a as is takin advantage of the consumer. Edit: sweet Primus spelling on iPod is terrible
iono I've gotten used and enjoy all the small casual games for the iPhone the few big long games never worked for me
Nope. When I look at the graphics on the best games, they are good but not £20 good. That's what sells a game for me. I would buy a game if it had as many levels as a psp game.
