First off I'll say this doesn't really effect me being British but I am a bit worried about it as once the Americans do it the British government might follow suit. Basicly I was just reading the article here . It looks like when this goes through it will be illegal to resell anything made abroad which lets be honest is basicly everything from used videogames, music, electronics up to massive purchases like cars. Would probably mean the end of ebay, charity shops, garage sales, auctions etc, the article also hints that it could effect items being passed down when someone dies. Presumably this also means if you buy a gift for someone you will then be breaking the law. Just thought this was the craziest thing I've read for a long time and only stumbled upon it by accident.
I doubt they will allow that to happen. It's absolutely absurd! The textbook company (a bunch of scumbags that charge WAY too much for their books- seriously, so much unnecessary mark up done by the majority of textbook publishers all in the name of cash... greedy assholes) is just pissed that a guy got a bunch of their books at a low price and then made a big profit off of them- I honestly just can't see this going anywhere. It's just another dumb attack by the textbook industry- they've been trying crap like this for a while. They have actually been attacking Amazon for the past few years because of their competitive textbook pricing. Plus, I doubt if there is a law that results from the precedent supposing the textbook company wins, that people won't still sell stuff or give it away- it's not like there is much they can do to stop it. Sure, they might take down or severely limit sites like Craigslist and eBay, but people will still do it with relative ease. I honestly am amazed at how stupid this whole case is. Just... wow. Corporations- trying to limit our freedoms by attempting to limit what we can sell and do on the internet, despite the fact that they still make more than enough money in profit.
