Well so far so good, the games are pretty quick possibly even too quick but I've been doing missions and one local multiplayer can't seem to get an online matchup yet. My only main gripe is the camera isn't great at following your shots so unless your zoomed out enough to see it all you'll miss your hit, pinching and zooming is very important in this one to see properly. As for the in game currency and weapons and things you loot after matches, they are all just to buy chests which you get for finishing a level anyway and to customise your worm. My worry was the weapons from these were needed but they are weapon buffs, each worm can have 2 and it just makes those weapons more powerful with that worm but I'm unsure how much? It does say at the top level upgrade it adds fire or poison to the weapon. Controls are good nice you get use to them and graphics looks great too, it's definitely a premium game and the single player campaign looks huge and is keeping me happy and helping me get practice for online games! I find myself enjoying this more than I have any of the other mobile iterations which quickly fell by the wayside, although the menus to customise outfits could be a little easier/quicker to navigate. All in all a good game just could do with a little camera work as my main gripe really oh and those sentry towers...I hate them! Can't even turn around without being shot and losing my turn.
Anyone beat level 19 yet? It's really irritating me, it's a crate collection and your given jet packs and a kamikazee yet on the last crate which is hidden inside an area you can't enter without using the kamikazee you fail because you die after hitting the box
Edit: Deleted ignore my above post, clearly I was tired and not seeing it. The multiplayer seems not to be working very well yet, same device does but so far only found one online match and that disconnected and I know it wasn't my connection. But still having fun with single player
Just wanted to drop in and say that my earlier post in this thread couldn't be further from the truth. I am NOT over the whole Worms thing and was just over the iOS ports that didn't necessarily fit the platform. This is absolutely incredible on iPhone 6 and the bite-sized missions are perfect for mobile. I personally don't care for multiplayer, but the single player is fantastic. Easily the best Worms title on iOS.
Glad to see you changed your mind : ) but yeh although there are some tweaks I'd personally make its a great game. I never bothered with the other iOS worms games barely played them after purchase but I find myself wanting to log in and play more with this one. Some missions are proving pretty tough to get 3 stars now though.
110% the case with me. I'd keep whichever was the newest at the time on my phone for the longest time and never touch it (even after a couple of days), but I've been constantly coming back to 4. It really is the perfect bite-sized Worms.
Impressions Ok, so being a pretty much hardened worm fan (i used to be in the past, then it died out until recently Worms 3 on iOS went free, which sparked off my interest once again), i went ahead and get my hands on this new Worms 4. Overall, to a hardcore worms player like me, this revision of Worms is underwhelming. However, to a casual player, it could be great. As the game promises, games are short. The small landscapes (imo, significantly smaller, small enough that a worm can fire to almost any place) and lesser number of worms make for games that are less than 10 minutes. Great for casuals, not for hardcore fans, i would like to think. This is a very personal opinion, but the graphics for this game is unfitting. The tectonic plate design of the worms themselves, as well as the weapons are totally not typical for worms, which is generally speaking a more smooth design. Is it a trend for games to have blocky graphics these days? Sorry, I really don't like it that Worms is following this graphic idea. Single player campaigns appear extensive but i stopped at around the 15th one, but i can say for sure that: the missions are much more well designed. There are missions that have alternate objectives like kill just a certain worm, or collect all the crates. But even some of the deathmatches are unusual and more of puzzle/progressive stages where you collect crates on the way to accomplish the task. Thumbs up here. Multiplayer wise was disappointing. There appears to be no scheme choosing, and especially most disappointing is i don't even see a weapon customization. I don't really know how to add teams neither - it appears to be limited to like, 3 customizable teams? (The others are default from the campaign) Perhaps Worms 4 is really meant to be entirely mobile friendly and completely on-the-go; you don't need to customize anything and you can just jump straight to battle. Worm customization is perplexing. There are actually more than what we had in Worms 3, but to customize the worms fully, you have to earn those customizations through opening chests earned through various means like the campaign. And what you earn comes in limited quantity; for example once you've earned a Angry Scouts voice from a chest and dedicate to one worm from a certain team, its stuck to that worm. To make another worm have the Angry Scouts voice, you must earn another Angry Scouts. While this allows a diverse worm team wearing different costumes and speaking differently, it becomes a chore to customize your teams to your liking. This, in my opinion, is the wrong approach to prolong the game's lifespan. If it were simply a one-time unlock for all, it would had been fine. However, the customizability aspect of adding power to a weapon (to 4 different levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum) to each worm is acceptable - this weapon pimping is optional to the game and does not lock the player out of the fun simply because one has to grind to get their desired item. A.I.s wise are a lot better than the previous Worms 3. They now perform much more complex moves (A.I.s in Worms 3 can't even perform jump manuveurs!) and are more accurate. I would describe Worms 4 as a game with a great lifespan with all those customizations to unlock, but one to be slowly completed in short bursts. What are your impressions, guys?
That's a nice post with some good observations, the smaller maps and shorter games I guess are what they aim for as its mobile gaming and it is good but sometimes you just miss a longer game with a bigger map but I don't miss all the traveling around trying to get 1 shot off. The campaign and rewards I do really like there's a nice variety and I haven't gotten bored yet, the way rewards are unlocked is fine as you get piles of them and I consistently get platinum rewards now too. There are also levels for those that like to grind that can be completed in a minute or so and offer prizes and money still. Multiplayer so far is its downfall for me, the campaign alone warrants the price tag but multiplayer rarely works for me I'm guessing because the game is new? But anyway I don't believe it needs async as some have complained in reviews because the matches are that short. But what I would like other than it to actually reliably work and pair me up is to have a match type option as there are possibly a few campaign types that could work in multiplayer. Although I'm happier to have same device as I really like that but often miss longer games in some cases as I said. Also what I miss is a guide for weapons, I have no idea what some of them do until I use them. Although it's not too bad as levels are very quickly restarted and no penalty since it's a premium game.
ant open loot crates?? I just keep getting a connection error you must be connected to the Internet to open crates. even though I am connected toy home internet (which is how I'm posting here!) anyone else had this problem?
I've had that prob too, but when I go to level select screen they're all lined up on the right waiting to be opened, so at least you don't lose them which I first thought.
Yep, even if you can't grab 'em when given to you, you'll always be able to open them in the main menu.
how to do so when there is a "connection issue"? Interestingly the app has no problem when you got to buy donkey money....
They're almost two completely different games besides the 3 & 4 at the end of their titles. And it all depends on your playstyle/time constraints as to which one is the better for you I guess. In the traditional sense Worms 3 is the best version of the game ever made, but some people (myself inc) found each game to take too long especially when there was a good chance of losing and you had to replay again & again to get 3 stars or whatever. IMO 3 was awesome but I kept putting it on the back burner till I had plenty of time, then ended up playing something else when that time arrived. Worms 4 is quick to play, quick to replay, quick to load and just generally more streamlined and because of that its a heck of a lot of fun to play and you feel like you're getting somewhere, achieving something. I think MC said it best earlier in this thread when he mentioned that he really loves the Worms franchise but was over it, until he started playing this one. That's kinda how I feel, like this one's renewed or refreshed the formula somehow.
this is exactly how I feel about this game. I played worms back in the day and loved it then but also had lots more free time on my hands. and while 1,2&3 for iOS have been good, worms 4 seems a better fit for my iOS gaming style and really just overall game playing style as I get older I have less time to sit down and play for long times. and the unlocks being earned slowly is some thing I like as it'll keep me coming back to it for a while.
found the problem where it kept coming up connection problem and not letting me claim prizes and the daily challenges not working. looks like it's my ad blocker stopping it working (WeBlock) because when I turn it off the game works fine.
Are people still playing this game? Thinking of picking this up for the sake of expanding my local multiplayer games folder on my iPad Air 2, especially due to it's small app size and it's current 99 cents offering. Does this game have a nice fleshed out local multiplayer?
