Should I buy it to see what all the fuss is about? Edit: if you can spare a moment, a little clarification would be appreciated. I have never played the game before nor have I even seen it in action. All I know is that it is quite popular with some large demographic. Thank you.
Well for a start I don't really like online MMORPG games. Also, I don't like fantasy and magic and all that crazy stuff that everyone seems to like. I like Oblivion, but that's about my limit. At least in Oblivion it feels half realistic and you don't have to use magic or be a stupid elf. That said, I enjoyed Ravensword and I'm looking forward to Aralon: Sword and Shadow.
MMOs suck your time away, you get addicted to them and your only friend will be the fat 59 year old man a block away, who turned out to be your ingame sex partner.
For hours to dollars comparision, this is an amazing deal for the (arguably) best and largest MMO. Until you've become this guy and you read this. Both are great reads by the way. Edit: The ending for the first article is here.
It's worth it if you don't mind having your life sucked away. I played it for about 6 months but gave it up because it really reaches a point where you can't participate in the game anymore unless you're willing to play for at least 2 hours a day. It is truly an amazing game and you'll be completely blown away by just how big the game world is when you first start out. It's incredibly immersive but does seem to suck your time away from you. We've all heard those kinds of stories.
Agreed, I used to play it a couple of years ago and was hooked, until I realized I was just wasting my time and money and I could be doing something more productive. I don't recommend playing it unless you really have nothing better to do.
