    To touchArcade users:

We are looking at developing a few new apps/games for the iphone/touch but we need your opinion. The first app we have began development on is a universal leaderboard where users would create a profile that would be used in all future (and hopefully past) iphone/touch games, and would rank you against other players and friends. Also, any type of achivements would be included as well. This is very similar to the xbox live experience, except on the iphone. We want to create a very social experience where users will be able to compete against friends and meets others in their cities, schools, etc.

Would this application be of interest to you, and if so, what options would you like to see added?

    Thanks,

    Your Commuto Team

  5. online leaderboards seem like something that should be done by the developers of the games themselves and not a 3rd party

if you can pull it off, you should

I'd like to see private messaging between friends. Maybe add a way to send challenges.

I agree that devs could/should do this themselves, but then users wouldn't have a universal application where they need only one login for all games and are able to compare themselves across all games at once. We will need to work with the devs to accomplish this but it's quite possible.

Beatmaker and Noise. Pro were able to do it. With some time, I'm sure it's achievable.

You say it could be used for ALL apps - past and future. How would you get scores from apps that don't have leaderboards built in?

Don't want to be negative but shouldn't this fall under Apple's umbrella to make it as cohesive as possible?

It should, but they haven't done it. There's plenty of room for someone to step in and do it...

So far everyone is all talk though :)
