I have a question: Has anyone who has moved on from level 2 figured out how to enter the haunted mansion?

    POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW:

Thinking maybe it’s a costume you unlock later in the game that effectively stops the guard from recognizing you? Perhaps something spooky-related? The cheese costume and the raccoon do nothing.

ooo yes i beat the second boss! It took me 4 potions, 15atk 10def 10mag 10crit, morningstar weapon and cheese armor.
I had to move vertically during all the fight to line up the boss with the minions, attack 3 times and move away.
When the boss did the spin, i was moving vertically and away from where it was coming. At this point, dont evade and dont attack for anything, just move up or down and away from where you were standing.
The only times i got hit were when the boss did the charge attack while i was hitting it, taking away 1/3 of health. But with 4 pots and 10 defence i decided to trade some more hits in for the charge, and i did it.
I have to say it was extremely satisfying, almost to Dark Souls or Mhw levels.
Hopefully this can help others beat it too at the same difficulty.

I'm enjoying the game but seriously, this is more than heavily inspired by Castle Crashers. The sound effects for picking up coins and hitting enemies with your weapon are identical, the level designs (so far) are very similar, the art style, the attack animations, and general look and feel of the whole game is pretty much the same. The way that you can pick up and swap weapons with different stats then choose them in the menu later is also exactly the same. The first level starts in a castle and you make your way out while fighting along castle walls in both games. The next area after the castle is a forested area where enemies pop out of bushes, you break through camps and have multiple diagonal rivers running through them, in both games.

I'm only on the second level and already multiple elements look like they've been lifted from Castle Crashers. The level where you're being chased by the stone monster and jumping over the broken columns feels totally is exactly the same as one in Castle Crashers. (Neither of these videos are mine, by the way)

    Wonder Blade 13:52

    Castle Crashers 9:55

Notice how even the animals quickly jump up in fear when the big boss appears then the characters jump on? The way the boss arms swing round and slam down? The way the players jump off a precarious edge at the end of the level only for the boss to reach out in slow motion to try and grab the player?

So yeah, I'm enjoying it, but as someone who has played a decent amount of Castle Crashers in the past, it all feels a bit too familiar.

The general feeling that I got from your post was that the boss fight is fine, but that some people are having trouble with it — and besides, the dev said they’ll nerf it. That sentiment is, in my view, wrong. If I can give you an analogy, this is like that lock we all have, the one that you have to jiggle and pull the key out slightly to unlock. You may have no trouble opening that lock, you may even be able to show someone else how to do it. But that doesn’t change the fact that the lock is broken and needs to be fixed. Not nerfed: fixed. The difference matters, because it applies not only to this one boss fight, but anywhere else where the developers have chosen cheapness over real difficulty. And it also matters because this is otherwise a really great game that deserves to be as successful as possible.

Then again, I was pretty angry yesterday and needed to vent a bit. Having that last mob kill me right after a cut scene (and having my victory snatched away) is as bad as it gets, gaming wise. And you are talking to someone who beat Dragon’s Lair in the arcades (took me a month and about $100 in quarters). So perhaps I came across a bit agressive — that wasn’t my intent. I truly appreciate how responsive the devs have been, even when dealing with some pretty serious criticism. As a professional creative myself, I can only admire their patience and understanding.

    Hi guy,

I've read all of your comments and it seems that some of you are enjoying the challenge and trying to find a way out. That's what I was trying to do when I created the game. I submitted the update this morning, but now I think it might be too easy to change the difficulty, so I canceled the update and got ready to rebalance again. At least some of the behavior of the second boss and the fish boss will not be annoying, but I still hope the game will be challenging, and I will try to find a balance between them, so the 1.01 update will be delayed by one to two days.

And I'm glad to tell you that I've just received a email from Apple's editors telling me they want to select my game as an editor's choice! so I'm going to get the recommended art resources for apple right away, maybe these two days will be very busy, so I hope you'll wait a moment.

    Cheers!

Excellent move. And congrats on the editor’s choice — that’s well deserved.

Now this is what I wanted to hear!

I forgot to mention on my previous posts, but it would've been a shame if Apple did not feature this. I think it's pretty easy for anyone to pick up and play this game to realize how good the game is, difficult or not. The dev is fixing the balance but even if it did stay hard, I don't think it would change my opinion about how good the game is. Monster Hunter is ridiculously hard but it's one of the most popular video game series in the world, because you can tell it's just a really well-made game. I think the same thing applies here. Even level selection is pretty easy so this can be a pick-up-and-play game when you have a moment of free time just for a quick exp grind.

Congrats on the editors choice! I'm glad Apple didn't miss out this time :)

my personal opinon on rebalancing: have a setting that the bosses do a bit less damage, and their "special" moves come a bit slower giving extra reaction time. But have it as a separate mode if possible.

Ehrm. Castle Crashers "Type"? You're being too kind.

More "Direct clone" These developers straight up stole complete scenes and character art from Castle Crashers. We shouldn't be rewarding scum business practices with our money, even when people put actual time and effort in it. I think, as a community, we're obliged to NOT BUY games like these.

I'm a huge CC fan with many many hours under my belt. I've also met the devs and artists from Behemoth on multiple occasions. This game has not struck me at all as "stolen".

However maybe I missed something. Can you show me where they stole complete character art like you said? As for scenes, I know some scenes are similar (like the chase scene) but animals are different, different obstacles, different looking boss, different area - that remains as just a similar scene. It's not a "direct clone" of CC like you said.

I beg to differ.. personally I vastly prefer the art direction of wonder blade compared to CC. It strikes me as a style that is more akin to Asian anime style as compared to CC (which to me looks very western inspired).

Also I find the animation fluidity vastly superior than that of CC... 60fps buttery smooth animations compared to 30fps of CC (on 360). Did you also notice those goofy, eye-twitching looks on the minions from wonderblade? I can say for sure those are *not* from CC and it’s quite originally done.

Well to each of their own I guess. But saying the guys ripped off CC is downright, wrong.

He’s speaking rubbish. Lots of games are homages. One of his previous posts he was happy with a game as it was a clone of another

If this game was a straight rip off with the same graphics they would be sued. It’s not though. There’s 1000s of other games with ‘similar’ influences to past games on the App Store

Agreed. The question is: does the game puts it’s own spin on the formula? From the “proof” videos above, the answer is clearly yes.

Yeah the Castle Crashers comments have been interesting. Castle Crashers is itself an homage to basically every beat 'em up game that's come before it, almost every piece of it is some trope from another game. Wonder Blade feels like a different team's take on that same type of homage.

I have never played Castle Crashers and honestly i could not care less if this is identical or not. The only thing i care is the game i play right now and this is an amazing game right here.

Absolutely loving the game and having a lot of fun with it. Like some others, having issues with the Hedgehog like boss.

Had 4 potions and a feather and still couldn't do it.
