You're definitely running into an issue that every developer will have. You've made a boss battle that's challenging for you the developer having played the game nonstop during development but are not approaching it from the players perspective. It looks like the dodge has some or all of it with i-frames allowing you to dodge through the enemies roll attack, but thats probably not the players first instinct (to dodge into an oncoming attack like that) making it way too hard for players who are not aware of that technique. Also that roll attack does a significant amount of damage to player making it very difficult for a player to survive 5 or 6 of these while chipping away at the bosses health.

That second boss is waaaay overpowered. Even in your video you are level 17 which is well beyond normal progression and you barely beat it. It’s attacks are way too powerful and it has way too much health. I think very little of your players will progress beyond it. I stopped playing as result myself. I’m afraid to think about the next bosses too after this one as this is just the beginning on the game. A major rebalancing is in order as this difficulty spike has nothing to do with previous fights.

Wanted to buy this but after reading some comments about control issues and almost unbeatable bosses i will hold off until some issues get fixed.

Love this game. It's beautiful, funny & fun. I'm a hater of virtual controls but this game nails them. In general combat its forgiving but allows for accuracy. Hats off to you guys..best game I've picked up in a while.

But I will echo the comments previously about balance with bosses. Also forced cut scenes after you fail make parts painful when k jaut want to jump back in.

I appreciate it's a two man team that created this so happy enough to hope they change somethings to improve based in feedback.

Either way well done, it may not be perfect but it's close as be damned.

Level 17 but with 22 undistributed skill points. As noted in the video he's at 10 attack and 10 magic, which is what I'm at as well. Still can't beat the damn bugger but I'm improving with each try and feel like it's at least possible now. That video helped a lot I was woefully underutilizing my dodge roll.

After 4 tries I beat the 2nd boss using one Ultimate Technique and 1 revive potion with character level 7. The spin attack can be dodged by simply zigzagging up and down. The boss aims exactly where you are standing so you basically remember the timing of when the spin will come and move vertically. The main problem I actually had was with the minions, I figured out how to dodge the boss but the minions will keep smacking me, which is how I lost most of my health.

I highly recommend upgrading the fire spell to max. I feel like that was one of the major keys to success. It has good range to keep away from the boss and the final upgrade adds the important "burn" skill. This allows the boss to continue to take some damage while you are playing keep away. I spammed the skills then ran to the side to try and buy more time for the MP to regen.

i-frames will help a bit if you're more aggressive. That was what I did since I have a ridiculous number of hours in Monster Hunter. Though in this game it seems like the window is very very small so I didn't rely on it too much. Hell, that mini-boss who looks like a giant buff knight is the enemy that has killed me the most. I have trouble dodging his damn grab attack, even when trying to figure out the perfect moment to roll. I hate that guy.

The 3rd boss is a slime boss that takes multiple kills to defeat. I haven't beat it yet myself but I think I can with some more grinding. Again, the challenge in this one is the slime minions, which will grab you and allow other slimes to hit you. This boss itself is fairly easy but it's more of an HP endurance test as the little slimes will slowly pick away at your health bar.

Hi guys, there will be a balance adjustment in the next update, and fix some bugs.
And so excited Wonder blade was named the game of the week by toucharcade, I'll try my best.
Thank you all for your valuable advice.

That's great to hear, my only real issue with the game is the difficulty. Besides that, this is easily a 10/10 game and one of my favorites of 2018.

Okay, having beaten the wild boss (the art of dodging + 3 health potions) and successfully killing the slime boss and the next one (no spoilers) with no problem, I don't know if my previous post about the wild boss being cheap and it needing serious tweaking is entirely true. Yes, the battle is overwhelming with how much is on screen and the damn boss taking up so much screen estate, but its entirely possible when you know how to handle dodging. Also, the spin attack should be the least of your concerns. It's MUCH simpler than you expect. I think I agree with L.Lawliet in that it's the minions that make the fight a little too hard, because if they're not attacking you, they're still everywhere and are a SUPER distraction. Maybe that's what needs tweaking, or maybe just shortening the wild boss' health bar would suffice? I don't know. I could maybe argue that nothing needs changing, but yeah...I definitely agree that the wild boss could be a stopping point for a LOT of gamers. I am, however, back to being totally infatuated with this amazing, amazing game.

I really agree with everything Jared said in his GOTW post. Quite a gem but the difficulty with the bosses got me off the game and I also told my friends I can't recommend it until it is better balanced. I would have expected the second boss (which is actually the first boss in the game, the other is just an escape) to be a bit of a push over. Not this brutal and frustrating. I also dislike that I can't skip cut scenes and that foes on the ground can't be hit. It just slows the tempo. I also personally don't like the cheese head - it would have looked nice if it was just a cheese hat and not the whole head.

All of the unlockable cosmetics are entire character changes (with specific perks), not heads or hats.

Wow, I am glad to know that Wonder Blade is more widely known. :)

"Wonder Blade", absolutely recommended if you like action.

    · Side scroll action of the final fight type
    · Pleasant combo for the first time in 5 minutes to understand its fun
    · Boss who knocks down and defeats the pattern
    · Huge homage
    · Item pushing also possible

It is real "Smart Phone Castle Crashers". Super Push.

As I wrote previously I LOVE the game! My main gripes with it were mentioned here before by others:

    1. Inability to skip cutscenes.
    2. Inability to compare equipment during the level (and see stat changes).
    3. Difficulty spike on the second boss (I'm just level 7 so I can't say if more grinding is necessary).

At first I was on board “bosses are too tough” train, but after beating first 5 or 6 of them, I’m not so sure the game needs tweaking. What it needs is a difficulty slider (current mode I would definitely consider a hard one, but I’d hate for the game to suddenly become too easy for everyone after the update - some people perhaps like to be challenged and yet the game should be more approachable for the average player who wishes to avoid frustration).

The bosses don’t require grinding (well, perhaps for potions if you need them), all of them simply require aggresive approach. You dodge into most attacks (few require you to dodge away) and get 2-3 hits and then dodge again. Use ultimate right from the start, makes no sense to use it later. Get rid of mobs, keep no more than 2 alive at any time. Use the cheese armor, mobs will drop food much more frequently and that will enable you to stay alive longer.

So, once again, I would strongly suggest adding the option to decrease difficulty (even mid game so that people don’t have to restart the entire game if they find their chosen difficulty level too high or too low). The game in current condition is definitely difficult, but not impossible. There are no bullshit mechanics, the only thing keeping anyone from progressing is his/hers own skill level (not attempting to sound high&mighty, I consider myself a person of average ability when it comes to gaming - some bosses took 6-7 attempts, but once you learn the attack pattern it becomes easier).

In the end, I have to say this is definitely one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played. I would definitely call it iOS GOTY candidate.

I agree on a difficulty slider.. or perhaps an extra second of invulnerability when dodging to give a bit more time to dodge through the huge 2nd boss. I also agree this should join several gems for GOTY, or at least GOTM.
