The spear of destiny levels do not work all that smooth because they are missing .wav files and the device can't find them
I'm fairly certain I did. At least, that's what I would want to do, though in my distracted state (was doing something else too) I might have just overwrote it without deleting it (still fairly certain I did, I distinctly remember pressing the x). Anyhow, I've just reinstalled it with sync-ing an hour ago, and I'll try it later on to see.
FYI, anyone who's looking to download more maps or to share out maps they've made, go to: http://www.wolf3dmaps.com If you're on a PC, the site doesn't do much more than let you upload. You can click on the "Recent Uploads" link to view the last 10 uploads, so you can sort of see what the site it about, but not really. If you're on an iPhone, you can surf the various maps that have been uploaded and launch them directly from the site! I highly recommend that everyone create a webclip bookmark on their phone for this site. Not only has it been designed to act just like an app, but it can act as a front-end to Wolfenstein 3D. Finish playing level 1 of a new episode? Go back to the webapp, select the second level, and the game will launch with all the weapons and health you collected in the previous level! The site is still a work in progress, so don't worry if it seems a bit light on features right now. I'll try to expand it as more levels get uploaded. BTW, apologies in advance to drdanick. It seems we had the same idea. Mine just took a bit longer. Don't discount his site completely. It's already got quite a few levels available: http://www.nick.fuseirc.net/forums/index.php?topic=27.0 ________ Toyota Matrix
Guys, is there a way to disable those enhanced graphics and play with original? I mean those hi-res weapons and stuff
Argh, still crashing at the first level of Spear of Destiny. Deleted on phone, reinstalled from AppStore; deleted on phone, reinstalled from iTunes. No luck =/ I've also checked FreeMemory right after crashing, and it was showing around 20MB. I'm going to just wait for the update or skip to next level. Are you crashing on first level too?
Ah, now working But does anyone know how to turn off vibration. Every time I get shot it vibrates, and I don't think it's very good for the phone.
It doesn't harm the phone, but it does drain the battery a bit more. I find it more annoying than anything, but then I've never been a big fan of force feedback.
Sorry about that. As it happens, I do indeed need a forum. Preferably one that supports map developers but I don't have to manage. You in the market to provide one? AFAIK, these are the original assets; not redrawn or enhanced graphics. They are higher resolution than the graphics seen in the DOS game because those were downscaled. The iPhone has 60% greater vertical resolution than the original PC version, so it only makes sense to go back to the source material and undo some of the shrinking. I don't know if it counts, but I have! The Trilogy Reloaded series that I've been converting is tons of fun. In many ways, I like it better than the original Wolf3D levels. Of course, that could just be because I've been playing the original levels for the past 18 years. ________ Rc113
Certainly, I can also provide reliable backup hosting or anything else you need (i'd like to make my extra capacity count ). I can probably assist in organising your site a little. (I do like it, but it needs a little bit of organisation, especially for when a large number of full episode mods emerge). Actually, the 'enhanced' gfx is from the mac version (along with being on a few other platforms). I don't really like them, especially seeing that the MP40 looks like a cross between an M4/M2 Browning/MP40, which is just silly. There is actually a reason why the enemy sprites weren't upscaled, they only had one side in the 'enhanced' version and could only ever be facing the player! (/silly trivia)
FYI, the first episode of Trilogy Reloaded is now fully available on wolf3dmaps.com. All 10 levels can be downloaded and played in order. Please note that for the best experience, you should exit Wolf3D and use the website to launch each level. This will maintain your health and weapons between levels. If you have ideas, feel free to sketch 'em out and PM me with them. I know the site is bit thin at the moment, but that's partly due to the lack of content. I like to scale sites organically as I feel they're less confusing at first, and end up much more targeted in the end. That's some very interesting trivia. I was under the impression that they had higher res original assets, but I guess not. It is kind of goofy that there was a version where the bad guys couldn't turn away from you. Shooting the nazis in the back was half the fun! (*evil grin*) Of course, the trivia claims that the game was originally more stealthy like its 2D predecessor, so maybe enemies turning away was a leftover attribute of that. ________ Mercedes-benz r107
Certainly, i'll have a go at getting some ideas out to you soon. I was actually working on a few applications for organising level packs. For example, I have a script to rename large chunks of maps from "map##" to something organised and consistent. If you need any web developers too, i'm more than happy to oblige. (Have you noticed that i'm a bigtime Wolf3D fanatic yet?)
Second episode of Trilogy Revisited has been uploaded! In addition, I've added a new feature. You can now browse by collection! I'm working to organize maps that are related under one umbrella. Thus when you load a "Collection", you'll see a master description and a list of maps, all organized by Episode. It's quite nifty. Just point your phones to www.wolf3dmaps.com to check out out! I don't know if it helps or not, but the webapp I wrote ignores the upload name. Instead it generates a friendly map name based on the title entered. You can actually download it as anything you want. e.g.: wolf3dp://www.wolf3dmaps.com:80/download/8754b3da-124ae946319/map/Trilogy_Revisited_E1L1.map ...obviously has the map name "Trilogy_Revisited_E1L1.map". But if you change it to: wolf3dp://www.wolf3dmaps.com:80/download/8754b3da-124ae946319/map/Bubba.map ...you get the same map with a different name. Doing this allowed me to call the maps whatever I felt like. I was able to experiment and found that Wolf3D doesn't like spaces and it despises not having ".map" on the end of the name. Which drives me nuts because the game does absolutely nothing to beautify the name! Grrr.... I'd love some help if you think you can handle the code. It's all highly sophisticated, scalable Java code written for Google's App Engine. Not sure if that's up your alley or not? Fanatic Wolf3D fan == Awesome ________ Toyota camry ts-01 history
Clever, the main problem would be to ensure that the maps are sorted by episode #, then level #. Or else the users custom level list would quickly become muddled. Especially seeing that you cannot remove levels yet. Perhaps you should force people to specify an episode/level number (unless it is a standalone map, naturally). You mean JavaScript? I haven't use it much, but I can generally understand it when I read it, so it shouldn't be hard to pick up. (I'm mostly a desktop developer (Java, C, etc), but I pick most new languages up very quickly) damn right! You may actually enjoy another little Wolf project I'm hosting: http://www.nick.fuseirc.net/legowolf3d
For right now I'm considering tweaking any bad data that comes in. Then if I see a pattern of bad data I can either tweak the input fields or automatically account for it. (Reminder: Anyone can upload files to wolf3dmaps.com! If you have a map that you want to share, please upload! Thanks! ) While I am an expert in object oriented Javascript, in this case I actually do mean Java. As in servlets, object databases, and all that jazz. As confusing as it may be, Google is my hosting provider. They provide me with excellent service at low cost. Check it out: http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/gettingstarted/ That is really nifty! I'll have to download it and play it if I get some time. ________ Hawaii medical marijuana dispensary
Java was my first and most familiar programming language, never heard of it being used like this, but I'm sure it'd be easy enough for me.
