A few things that helped me - while the best profit is made following the supply/demand curve, never hit the road without a wagon full of goods. You can sell anything anywhere, and can most often turn some kind of profit on your goods in the next town, even if there's no stated demand. Many goods sell well anywhere they're not in supply. Obviously selling goods that are in supply will net you a loss. If you're on a delivery assignment and must carry something several towns away, pick up and sell other stuff along the way, provided you have room in your wagon. As the travel path is mostly linear, and you must stop at every town on the way to your ultimate destination, it's horribly inefficient to not be trading at as many stops as possible. Especially when you're losing money on wagon repairs. I found those extra nickels and dimes quickly add up and help fund wagon upgrades. I love the death punishment in this game. If you are killed enroute, a benevolent arch-mage restores your wagon for 10% of your gold and gives you the choice of being dumped in either the town you just departed or Millard (1st town in the game). Several times I chose Millard because I had a wagon of exotic goods and figured I could probably make a profit selling them on the 1st continent. Also maybe pick up a quest or two I passed on earlier. I've only been playing for about 3 or 4 hours total, and there's a lot to discover about the way the sim is structured, so some of my assumptions are bound to be wrong. Having a load of fun tho.
Beat the game? Is this game short? It was only released a few days ago and if people can beat it already not sure about getting this game?
Beta testers who have been playing for months (?) are in on the discussion... Personally, I haven't beat the game yet... But after starting 10 games now, and seeing all the different quests/purchase prices each time, it's pretty easy to see this was made to have near endless replay value.
Just purchased, and I appreciate the tips. I'm wondering why folk are restarting the game a lot. Are you just honing your strategies?
First couple of plays, before you understand the basics, you can find yourself in a situation where your initial resources are depleted and the best option is to start over. This is not a hard game to understand. You should be off to the races 2nd or 3rd try.
Yeah I was just screwing around testing out the mechanics and messing with quests... Seeing how everything worked...
Oh dear, stuck already. How do I pick up loot on the road, and why is it predetermined which town I go to next?
You tap on it (there's also an upgrade you can equip that will pick up loot automatically), and it's not. The first town you visit will be automatically targeted, after that, you'll be able to choose which path to take to which towns... granted, you will be going along one main road with a couple of branching paths that dead end in towns for a while... but you're able to choose towns that are connected to the town you're in. Never forced (aside from the very first trip, which you would be making anyway because it's the only town you can go to from the starting town...) to go to a certain town.
Thanks. For some reason the fleet foot icon wouldn't appear on towns I'd already visited, so I thought the destination was forced. And I guess I'm just unlucky that I'm not picking up loot fast enough.
Well... say you're in the first mining town (Altos Mines) - you can't just click back on the starting town (Millard) and go there... you'll have to go to Giam Peaks (which is connected to Altos Mines) and then to Millard (which is connected to Giam Peaks). Not sure if that's what you mean... but yes, the foot icon only appears over towns that you can reach from your current town, with more towns (and paths) unlocked as you progress...
I'm confused on how you unlock new towns. It seems extremely random. Like I'll have a quest from the guild in the second town to get perfume and deliver it to another town and idk where to get, say, perfume and where the other town is
Yeah, in the beginning it's best to stick to consignment/explore and bounty quests. Save those ones for towns you can't see yet for later on in the game when you can actually see where the towns you're supposed to visit are. As for unlocking towns, I thought that once you visited a town, it gave you whatever towns were connected to it, but when I went to the first mining town, the two towns below it did not unlock right away. I'm not really sure what all I did to unlock them... =o/
Just chipping in here about routes. Apart from sea routes and very rare exceptions, when you go to a new town, the routes to all nearby towns will be unlocked permanently. One of the exceptions which may have caused some confusion is that you're forced to go to Altos Mines if you agreed to travel with the wizard. I'll fix it in the next patch to make that clearer. Will also likely be increasing the chance a quest destination will be a town you know, and increase the rewards for towns you don't.
Starting to obsess over mithril and ham... Now riding a boss pimped wagon, but totes forgot about a £5k loan. So it's back to the mines to trek mithril and ham, mithril and ham, mithril and ha..... Though (at 00:23 uk time), bed comes first!
