(I'm playing with the Zero so the direction might be a bit different) Normal ending: land at the bow of the carrier. Your plan should hook on to an arrest wire and stop just on top of the elevator. If you screwed your approach, just land from the other direction and hook onto the same arrest wire at the same position on the carrier, then reverse back to the elevator.
I want to buy this, is no one having luck playing on the iPod 4th gen? Or did those fixes posted earlier work?
I spent so many hours playing Rescue Raiders when i was a kid... that and Captain Goodnight. This game is a pretty good little nostalgia trip for sure.. I'd love to see iCade support - this game is a very good candidate for it.
Damn what a waste of money, my fault for not seeing this thread first. Bought the game, tried it, crashed, thought i'll just reset/reboot my ipod and the same, havent played one game yet as it constantly crashes. Dont these devs try it on other machines or get friends to try it or set up a testing platform like other devs do ? Just disappointed, granted its only £1.49 but its the principle, you expect a game to load up. I wouldnt mind if the dev arrived to say sorry i know theres issues give me a week or two.
Ahem 611 I buy about 5 apps a week, in the year i've had my ipod (64 gig obviously !) i've only had issues with 3 apps not working despite closing down all other apps, resetting etc. I work away from home a lot so i love the variety of going in and out of different types of apps i have. I know theres a lot of apps installed but 99% of my apps work fine despite 100's being on my device. The update to GTA III worked when before it was crashing tons, another game the dev said they were looking into it and an update a few weeks later worked (Was that horror runner game) and the same for another (i was in email contact with the dev). Normally a reset of the ipod works and all is good with the world. Again if the dev had an email address and said 'sorry i'm working on the update' i dont mind waiting at all.
Some reassurance from the Devs would be nice. When you say a reset of the iPod do you mean turn off and on or restore to factory settings.
No i did a soft reset, held the top button until i could turn it off, also held the home/top button to reset it as well. Too much hassle to do a factory settings restore and then a backup, i do want to play the game but i'm not going to go over the top. Is it a gamesalad game ? Just i've had problems with those in the past, the 'loading' animation reminds me of a gamesalad game. (Just completed Max Payne so now deleted that, good to get a big chunk of space back !)
Well, i've soft reset, hard reset but im not going to wipe my ipod just to play one game, even if it works.
I really hope that's your being sarcastic there As for your number of apps on the device theory I have 95 apps on mine. Is that a lot ? Springboard appears to be taking up an average of 3306 pages which on an iPod touch 4 with a page size of 4k is around 12-13 MB Not sure if that's a lot. I went to the app store link on the first post on this thread. It lead me to : http://ideaspoonnews.blogspot.com/2012/05/wings-of-valor-working-on-ipod-crash.html They are based in Korea so will probably be operating on Korean time. I'm not convinced it's how many apps you have on your iPod touch 4 I'm a bit technically minded and have a number of debugging/memory use utilities on my iPod so have looked into this with as much detail as I can muster. Of course that in itself is limited due to being at work and not at home where i have better tools installed I believe it's directly related to a bug in how the achievements are retrievied at the start of a new game. Those who aren't crashing appear to be all on iPhone 4s which have 512 MB of memory versus 256 MB of memory. So for them it's not hitting the low memory threshold that is causing iOS to freak out and quit the app. That's a point - anyone brought this phone on an iPhone 3Gs or below ? Are you crashing ?
Here's why I believe it's due to the achivements causing a low memory situation : When it crashes I can check the error reports as to why it's crashed at : (Settings -> General -> About -> Diagnostics & Usage -> Diagnostic & Usage Data) . So far they're all LowMemory reports with 500 - 700 pages free memory (about 1-2 MB free) with Wings of Valor using an average of 36440 pages (about 142 MB) Using an app that lets me read the system console log this sequence of events appears to be happening : 1) Wings of Valor uses com.apple.AVConference : GKSConnSettings to set some server defaults (Not totally sure what this is) 2) Wings of Valor writes "0" into the console log once or twice (why i have no idea) 3) Wings of Valor calls LoadAchievements 4) Springboard receives a low memory warning 5) User event agent takes a kernel termination snapshot (hey guise we're crashing *takes photo*) 6) gamed gets terminated 7) Wings of Valor gets terminated NB Page size on an iPod touch is 4k afaik
I had 165 apps installed in my iphone 4 and everything began suffering terrible slowdowns. I restored a backup and suffered the same issue. I cleaned the phone of unused apps, left around 90 apps installed and everything became much smoother. Therefore, the number of apps affect smoothness. I read in the Infinity Blade 2 forums that it had to do with how the phone manages the caching of the icons of the apps installed (this said by the IB2 devs themselves). It seems that most devs don't have this in mind because they try their apps in devices with not too many apps installed. I could be wrong though, but this is what I read.
But you have an iPhone 4 VirtualBoyFreak. With 512 MB of memory you aren't hitting the low memory wall that iPod touch 4 owners are.
This needs to become universal. The iPhone screen is way too small gimme an universal version and I'll buy it!
Yeah, I know. I was pointing out another thing that takes up a lot of valuable memory resources. Having 650+ apps installed possibly doesn't help towards avoiding memory issues. A good beginning would be to uninstall a few apps to free that much-needed cache, even though I'm aware that 256MB vs 512MB is a hell of a diference when talking about these devices. I hope the devs find a way of getting this game to run smoothly in iPods.
http://ideaspoonnews.blogspot.co.nz/2012/05/wings-of-valor-ipod4-crash-fixed.html I imagine we'll see an update out shortly. Depends on when the iTunes store has it up for download.
Itunes verification tends to be around 3or5 days from when I've seen an update submitted to actually getting ready for download. Thank god its fixed though.
Updated to iOS 5.1.1 Same chain of events at : http://forums.toucharcade.com/showpost.php?p=2255900&postcount=53 Although I appear to have 2 new buttons I didn't have before but I think that's because I'm currently connected to a WiFi network when I wasn't last night during my testing. According to my Apps page in iTunes i'm still on version 1.0
