Assuming the iPhone 3.0 software update will also be coming to the iTouch, is it going to be one of those you must pay $20 for it dealies?
I'm just curious because I'm on the verge of buying a Touch but I don't want to have to immediately pay for a software upgrade. What do you think? Surely eventually you'll be able to buy an iTouch in stores with the 3.0 software already installed. I know they did that with the 2nd Gen iTouch.

I doubt Apple would be able to release a new touch without some info leaking, but whether will pay for 3.0 or not depends.

I think it will be just like the 2.0 update. So touch users would have to pay.
I also don't think there will be much added for touch users. Most people care more about MMS, copy/paste, and other phone centric features.
I would wait until the event for more info though. Everything right now is just speculation, and of course there may be a new model coming out around the WWDC.

I doubt we'll have to pay for the update. If they release a 3rd gen iPod Touch, they I can imagine paying for it though.

To make people pay, this will have to be impressive.
I hope we have to pay :)

but it says it's a preview, not the full release. and yup, a full release is usually paid for. it's the inters that are free.

Apple is such a greedy company! Do you remember when ipod touch owners had to pay for the mail, weather...etc. apps? Then, we had to pay for Iphone OS 2.0. If the 3.0 is compatible with ipod touch1G, I imagine Apple will charge more than 10 dollars.

They charged going from 1 to 2, i'd imagne they will ask for a payment to go from 2 to 3 also.

Rather sucks, but that's apple for you.

Paying doesn't seem right but look at what we have now, it was worth the investment to me. I just hope the next update has 1. folders 2. Flash, 3. Cut n Paste. I would also like a new Ipod touch that can use the cell network/wifi/wimax/bluetooth with a bigger screen. AKA Netbook. I would love an I-Phone but the data/phone plan price is just criminal. I think the other carriers are starting a price war so we may get a everything plan for an afforable price yet.

I think we will have to pay. All the big updates that come out the iPhone gets for free because they already pay monthly cellular fees and us iPod Touch users have to pay for.

I really hope this comes out soon (I know the event is tuesday but I'm pretty sure that they are only going to show it off there.) and is really good and all.

I could imagine this update also possibly preparing for a new iPhone this summer.
I really would love to get an iPhone but I despise AT&T. So I need to wait until it opens up onto a different network.

    Can't wait for the update.

Hmmm... Let's see what could be in the update.

    Video Recording (iphone only)
    MMS
    Accurate Battery
    Copy and Paste
    Flash
    Enhanced wifi finder
    More icon space
    Internal video recorder

They make one of those, they call it the iPhone.

So...if they put a chip in the touch to allow it to use cell data towers, you think you wouldn't be paying the $30/mo for that service?

I swear, the cheapness of people here pisses me off. 'I'll buy a $300 device, but I'll be damned if I spend anything else for it.'

Would it be possible to attach a webcam to the iPotch so you could take pictures? I know the PSP can do that, so why not the iPod. Video may even be possible too. I guess we just have to wait and see.

Come on you consider $100 a month for a Iphone plan cheap?

I'd be more than happy to pay $30 for a data plan and just make calls on it using Voip. I'm just getting tired of paying through the nose for cell service. Once Wi-Max or similar service becomes popular I have a feeling the Cell Phone rates will change rather quickly. :)
