I've formated my computer recently, and my iTunes account is completely setup once again. Logged in, opened the library file and dragged all the music/movie/app files into iTunes. I'm just thinking about one thing... when you download app .ipa-files from the internet and put them into iTunes, they won't install on an unjailbroken iPhone. Since i've dragged the .ipa-files from my purchased apps from my backup to iTunes, will it think that those apps are pirated and delete them all from my iPhone? Or will every app install on my phone, like they do when you sync your iDevice for the first time?

I really don't want any problems with my apps, and since i've paid around 100 dollars for them all together, it would be really frustrating to lose them or my saved data. Anyone knowing how this works?

If you download a paid app for free off the internet isn't it technically pirated?

Yes, but i haven't downloaded anything from the internet? I never said that.

I mean that it's the same principle, just that my bought .ipa-comes from my backup and not the internet.

And i don't care how obvious the answer is, it's nothing but ****ing ignorant to answer with nothing but a "you are dumb"-smiley. Especially since you guys obviosly missunderstood. Why don't you just help me?

Well if it comes from backup, then you can restore from backup. There is no need to drag ipa files around, legally downloaded or pirated.

If they are paid apps then there is no way that you can lose them. Just log in to iTunes and download them again for free.

Sorry about that, I simply misunderstood your initial post, no need to get so grumpy 'bout it.

In respopnse to your question: unless you have a backup of it you can simply re-download it from the iPod App Store, no point in trying to mess around with the files.

You should also be able to double click on an ipa to add it to your iTunes library. I know I can.

I've realized that. But since i wanted all of my app collection (wich is around 200 apps) available for sync, it seemed like a better alternative to "mess around with the files". And done is done...

So my question remains. Will my save data, or even all of my apps, be lost? Or does my iTunes know that i've bought those apps, even though i've dragged the .ipa:s into iTunes instead of redownloading them? Feels like it's made for sync disaster, if iTunes isn't smart enough...

The apps are linked to your account. iTunes verifies this as long as your computer is authorized. Your game saves will likely not survive the transition.

Starting on a freh page here....

I apologize if I point out the obvious, not the biggest iTunes tech wiz out there.

If you've initially downloaded the app from iTunes, the account you downloaded it off of will always know that you downloaded that app, if you out that app onto iTunes, even through an ipa I'm assuming (keyword "assuming", don't kill me if I'm wrong) your account will think that was the one you downloaded initially.

As for your save data, unless you've backed up I'm pretty sure it's mostly gone, not really sure how the iTunes backup system works....

Thanks! I double clicked an ipa inside iTunes, and i was asked to authorise it. After that app was authorised, though, nothing happened when i double clicked the others. Does this mean that all of my apps is authorised?

Ok, seems like that's how it works then.

I know that the save data gets lost once you delete the game from your iDevice, but will the non-existing save files (in my computer) replace the existing save files (on my device) when i sync? I know that this is not at all how it normally works, but since this is my "first sync" and i've fiddled with these stinking .ipas, i'm a bit worried...

Yes, they are all authorized. They should appear in your 'applications' tab in iTunes once you open them (by double clicking or dragging & dropping.)

Yes; you didn't actually authorize the app, you authorized the computer, which means that all the apps you download from then on are already confirmed as being downloaded to one of your account's computers.

As long as your computer is authorized and the games are still installed on your device, iTunes shouldn't touch them. If that is the case, your save data should be safe. Good luck.
