O I like this photo , it looks almost stylized with the dark contrast and color yeah the planar reflection works really well but it looks like a mirror. I am working on a water update, I’m trying to combine the basic water shader with the planar shader so I could get good looking water with perfect reflections using low power. I’m glad you stop to take photos, that’s what it’s there for. You can always try different settings. If you try something that’s too high and the iPad crashes, when you restart on the splash screen you’ll get the option to go back to default quality. It will reset any custom quality options but it lets you try things without worrying about getting stuck. Wilderless automatically saves all quality settings, something poeple really wanted in my last games. The issue was always that iOS devices are so different, so it’s not like a console where you have a known quantity of power, so auto save could get you stuck in a saved setting loop that was towould high and crashy. This was I think gives a good compromise.
WELP that insane cartoony vertical jump is back :/ You even acknowledged that the jump was too high in your previous games, but here it is again! It's totally disorienting. The camera jerks up into the sky. That's too much jumping power, man! What gives?
I remember that In the end liked the high jump too much. I felt like the game is about travelling fast and the high jump lets you move around more freely. Thats why I also added a double jump form the start. But I do listen to all the feedback from the last game, and even though high jump is the default, it's very easy to turn it off. Goto OPTIONS-CONTROLS-HIGH JUMP and uncheck it. Another complaint from my older games was the settings didn't save. So I made sure 99% of the settings save automatically now, so you can turn off the high jump and forget about it, at least until you reset the settings (OPTIONS-SETTINGS-RESET) if you do. Thanks for buying my game and I hope the rest of it is enjoyable.
Thanks for fielding that questions and I'm glad you saw the options I replied with a screenshot of the OPTIONS-CONTROLS-HIGH JUMP button where you can turn it off.
Personally, I don’t mind the high jumps... it’s fun to climb a high peak and just float down taking in the view!
Yeah I like doing that too I’m always looking for ways to give players more movement options, the double jump glide was developed early on and it was a lot trickier than I thought it would be to implement, but I think it’s Pretty intuitive. I like to climb a tall mountain and do a double jump and then just glide peacefully into a valley
As it stands right now, this is not my cup of tea whatsoever, but gee does this give me Zelda: Breath of the Wild vibes, just minus most of the rest of it.
How come I missed this one?! Congrads! Looks like it fits right into my new 11" iPad Pro... I am thinking it is high time Apple produced external GPU for iPad...... Oh, it crashes right out to the Springboard at the "Creating World" screen....
Uh oh - that's no good and Im sorry about that. Can you do me a favour and let me know some information? On the splash screen with the Big number, click the option button in the top lefty nd on the next screen can you tell me the name and model number it says for your iPad? Like in this image the iPad is iPad7,3 Do you have the brand new iPad Pro released in 2020? did it crash the first time you tried it? Or were you able to play before hand and it crashed the next time you played? Does clicking RESET GAME on the splash page option screen fix the issue? Thanks for helping me track this down. Crashes are as stressful for me as they are for you, and I know they're no fun.
1. iPad8,9 2. Yes iPad PRO 11 (2020) 3. Yes, it crashes right at the very first run. Tried kill the app and start again, tried shutdown and start again, no luck 4. I hit the "Reset Game" button and it still crashes. No rush, no stress. It is supposed to be a relaxing game. I am in zen mode when I launch this game. If I want to stress, there is Door Kickers and Snake Core to go to.
Wow - you're so understanding - thank you for making this easier. This is super helpful. I had guessed the model numbers for the new iPad pros and I was way off - I had iPad 13,3 etc. Your feedback helped me track down the correct model numbers. Im hoping the crash is because I didn't add them and I just built a new version with iPad Pro 2020 detection (11 and 12.9 inch, wifi and cellular) and its uploading to apple as we speak. Do you mind sending me your email address to Robert at Protopop dot com? I can add you to my beta list. It might be available right away or sometimes apple takes some time to vet new versions. either way you could test version 1.1 as soon as its available and we can see if this fixes the crash.
OK 1.1 is submitted to beta testing and its under review from apple, so I hope it will be available shortly to test. I actually just got an understandable angry email about the iPad 2020 crash, which makes me even more appreciative that you were so kind about this. Thank you.
Wilderless 1.1 is being submitted to Apple. It fixes a crash that happens when an unknown device is detected. Specifically the new iPad Pro 2020 which I had the wrong model identifier for, and I think some versions of the iPad 2018. I’m sorry to anyone who was affected by this, and grateful to the people who brought it to my attention. You know, I call myself a solo developer, and I am the only one working on this. But I’m not really alone because it’s the help from players who test and take the time to let me know what’s brOken and what’s great that guides me. I think at the end of the day no one is really an island, and it together in one way or another that we make (hopefully)great things. I’ll post again as soon as I get feedback from Apple.
Wilderless 1.1 update is live in the App Store Apple gave me an expedited review. Whenever you have a chance if you could try it and let me know if that works I’d be grateful.
Updated, wow, it is great! Thank you! I come across a gorgeous giant robot. The ground tumbles! But the effect when it crosses a water body is strange. No splashes? No ripples/waves? Will post some photos later.
I am soooo glad to hear this The technical aspect of making games is the part I find most stressful. I spend a lot of time just sitting and worrying about the how the engine, iOS, macOS and Xcode will all come together in an ever changing landscape. So when something like this finds a solution I take it as a little victory. Thanks for brining it to my attention. And I'm glad you can explore the world now. I set the default quality to medium, but your iPad can probably handle a lot more. Watch out for quality settings that have a red exclamation mark on them because they are the heaviest. But feel free to play around. Almost every option screen has a reset button on the top right that will reset everything to the defaults on that screen. And there is a global quality reset button in OPTIONS-SETTINGS-RESET Plus whenever you restart the game, you can choose between loading the default quality, or your saved quality options. I made a note to add splashing to the GlareStone Golem - who is a fantasy creature I. my head but everyone describes as a robot, so maybe his origin will change Each world is very big, about 18x18km - don't be shy to run (or fly OPTIONS-ACTIONS-HAWK) far in any direction as the landscape will change, from the green and warm south to the icy north with frozen lakes (and ice skating And if you have any questions or suggestions please let me know. I received so much feedback from my first games and I tried to put as many of them in Wilderness.
