http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/28/why-is-european-broadband-faster-and-cheaper-blame-the-governme/ Call your Congressmen and Senators. I think we need a duopoly buster.
Could have fooled me, I'm still 15 minutes from the capital city of my country and still speeding along on a maximum of 0.6 MBit. Pathetic, and I blame our government too, because they refuse to spend any money on it.
I used to pay $60 a month for 18Mbps but now I pay $45 for 6Mbps simply so I don't have to deal with Comcast anymore. It could be worse, there's still rural areas in the US where the only options are dial-up and satellite. We need to increase availability before we start worrying about speed.
Heh, guess it makes sense that they talked to the business heads rather than the actual consumers, if that's a widespread case. I'd still enjoy having a larger selection. I won't relish the day when I'll have to choose between the best of two evils when I wire up my own home. Like they said in the video, that's one of the issues we'd have to deal with: finding a way to make wiring a connection out there for a few people a winning situation for the company as well as the consumer. As I say this, it's probably true that changing the way that our nation does interlinking would probably be pretty low on the priority list; it's not like they have the funds to do anything anyway.
