Yes. Think you might find the reason you prefer using a laptop over the desktop is the same reason some of us prefer to use an iPad over a laptop.
Except....desktops aren't portable. Still waiting for someone to price the ipads $300 superiority over the iPod touch
Some people just like and can afford nice things, I'm not sure what to tell you. Does someone opting for leather seats over the perfectly functional yet substantially cheaper cloth seats in their car also cause you to froth with rage?
Right. That's what I have been saying. People don't prefer the iPad because it's more functional, people prefer it because it's more luxurious.
"More luxurious" than what? This isn't a matter of "preference:" the iPad doesn't compete with laptops. Apple makes laptops. The iPad is, like the iPod touch before it, a product category all it's own. It's a magic book that you can read, or play a game on, or do the NYTimes crossword puzzle on, or watch TV, or draw while listening to your music... All on a huge, responsive touch screen that eclipses the iPod touch in every way (I own both and rarely pick up the Pod anymore) and that I can hold in my hand like a magazine (try that with your laptop). It is what it is. Which is, BTW, a huge freakin' market hit.
Touch Arcade should make an article titled "Gameloft Employee Speaks Out: The iPad is a waste of money"
well there are still ALOT of things you cant do on an ipad that you can do on a laptop. its can play music, apps, videos, surf web..etc but an ipad could never replace a laptop for me. plus, with pay 600+ dollars for a a4 running a 1 gighertz, 256 megs of ram, 64 gig hard drive when i can get a i5 powered laptop with 4 gigs of ram and a 500 gig hard drive for around the same cost? i could make a huge lists of things that you can do on a laptop that you cant do on an ipad
The laptop I bought was actually touted to be good plus it was a lot more than $500. Now if I had gotten a $500 laptop, the ipad would look even better. Plus I did compare it to a MacBook (We have a pro and umm regular?). While there maybe bias on the first comparison, I guarentee you no touchpad can beat the ipads controls. Yeah I covered some of the things a laptop can do that a ipad can't (not specifically). Ipad has Skype? There's an app for that. Surfing the web check. Play flash games not check, sadly. Play AppStore games check, can a PC? Nope. Shitty touchpad on PC? Yup. Ease of use? Ipad. Now let's see. Reliability. A $500 laptop will be shit on in like a year. My iPod touch (apple quality so I assume ipad has similar quality) still going strong.
In the land where preteens go to whine about app store prices, marketing strategies and the ipad. So pretty much TouchArcade is where he's been. I just wonder if he even knows what half that stuff even means.
Dude, the anecdote you used definitely made it sound like you bought it for luxury. Why use leather instead of cloth? It's nicer. You said yourself cloth is almost exactly the same, but some people can afford nice things. I dunno if you just used the wrong anecdote, but that kinda put you in a hole.
By this time next year we'll have the iPad 2G with a camera on front and back, improved graphics, a USB drive and more. Or something of the sort... your iPad 1G will be useless in about 2 Years since you won't be able to do much with it (i.e. iPod Touch 1G) and you will be forced to upgrade. As long as you don't buy a crap laptop it should last for about 4-7 years.
My point was they both hold your butt, one just costs more. Just like I can browse the internet on an eMachine I pulled out of a dumpster, or I can browse the internet on my iPad. Browsing it on my iPad is simply a much better experience than the other devices I own.
I love when perfectly logical and straight forward analogies are lost on people blinded by disporportional rage.
