A friend of mine just got a new 45" HD plasma television. And I was like, "Isn't that just a bigger, better TV? And isn't a TV just a radio with pictures?" So he returned it. Seriously, though, what were you expecting the iPad to be when you purchased it? It's not magic. I can tell you right off that it's almost totally useless for washing dishes. And it's not, like, a Transformer or something. (Ohhh, Man! Transformers!... Those are all, like, "Dude, I thought it was a toy car, but then it turns into a goddamn ROBOT!" Totally freaking Sweeet! ....But I digress.) Anyway, my point is... ummmm... you know... The iPad. It's bigger. And it doesn't transform. But seriously -- next time you spend $500 on something, you might want to at least read the box.
Dude. This happens every five minutes on this site. That what you get when you make technology affordable to pre-teens.
Bahahahahhahah Fruho, youuuu sure put him in his place :ROLLMYMOTHER****INGEYESBITCH: EDIT: hmm must be something wrong with the smileys
I don't own one but I've used one and it's awkward to carry around, the web browsing experience is definitely not as good as a laptop or netbook, and it seems to only fit a niche demographic who like to buy sleek toys that in actuality are pretty impractical.
3 million units shipped in 80 days. That's not a "niche." That's a "crevasse." Or a "chasm." Or maybe a "canyon."
Not gonna lie... I'm kind of glad I held out on getting an iPad. I'd much rather have an iPhone 4. But the iPad has its advantages. There's a lot of cool stuff you can do on the larger screen, and it's quicker to use than a laptop.
I probably spend 1-2 hours a day in the morning going through the blogs and RSS feeds I follow on my iPad. I've got a 27" iMac and a MacBook Pro and the iPad just flat out beats them for reading. I suppose it depends what your internet usage consists of. If your web browsing habits include little more than playing Flash games then yeah the iPad is going to be a terrible experience. Reeder for the iPad supplemented by Safari really makes keeping up with all the things I need to keep up with for my job substantially more enjoyable. It feels a lot more like reading a magazine than sitting at my computer flicking my index finger across my mouse wheel for hours on end.
hey, everybody has their own opinions..but have you seen the thing!!! Its powered by an Intel Pentium U5400 CPU operating at 1.2 GHz, 2 GB of DDR3 memory and a 64 GB SSD, which makes it a fairly powerful machine. Other specs include a 1-megapixel webcam, Bluetooth, MicroSD card, Wi-Fi, one USB port, an 8-cell battery and a Windows7 operating system.
If something like that appeals to you, I think you're missing the point of the iPad. It's kind of like how some people prefer this: Instead of this:
The marketplace is not driven by hardware. Nobody buys hardware. And these days, people don't even buy software. What they buy is a user experience. That Toshiba looks pretty cool, and it's sure got some specs. Now all you have to do is design an application marketplace, encourage thousands of major and indie developers to create startling new apps, build infrastructure for direct-to-consumer video and audio sales, and infuse the machine with a revolutionary and magical UI that blurs the lines between waking life and a hallucinatory dream-state where anything is possible, and the only limitation is yourself. (Thanx and a tip o' the skimmer to engadget.com for the dead-on list of competitive requirements.)
Are you joking? It's not as good as a laptop while browsing the web? How long did you play with it? 20 minutes? Dude it destroys a laptop in browsing the web. I have a Dell xps laptop (piece of shit) and I absolutely hate usin it to browse the Internet. The touchpad is terrible. While macs have a great touchpad for laptops, it cannot beat the ipads control scheme. You use your fingers. I can open up a page, find something cool, zoom in really fast, and press it. Xps, you see it, persuade your touchpad to move the mouse there, miss and get angry. MacBook is close, but you're still using a damn inaccurate touchpad. What kind of laptop do you get for $500? I think you'd be able to get a MacBook mini. I don't think anything of high quality at all. Try gaming on a $500 laptop, then find games that will run properly. Then play a game on the ipad, then find a hundrd thousand more games that run properly. Then y'all talk about portability. Can you fit a laptop in your pocket? No. Then why the **** do you think an ipad should? You guys are so annoying. You compare the ipad to an iPod when it's convinient for your arguement. Then switch to a laptop when it benefits your argument. You need to stick with one and consider all it's pros and cons. Then go to the other. "oh this Pumpkin tastes better than that watermelon, plus that watermelon is less portable than this orange!!!!" Using that logic you'd have to buy both pumpkin and orange to beat the watermelon, only to have it cost more, have a shitty tasting thing, and having portable gone. If we were to compare a $500 laptop to a $500 ipad, we'd find several things. The laptop is less portable than the ipad (heavier plus thicker). The laptop can do more than the ipad, but it's not as streamlined for users as an ipad. Etc. Lastly, you guys think that the $500 only covers the cost of the upgrades from the ipod to the ipad. So by your reasoning the $500 is for more screen space, a better processer, backgrounds and a new name. The hardware, AppStore, iTunes, software, touch screen technology, everything that makes an itouch an itouch is standard and free.
I prefer browsing the internet for long periods with my laptop, and short periods with my iPad. I understand why people are on both sides of the fence, and I don't think everyone needs to justify their point. I'll say that the iPad is a great device, but I'll also agree with those who say it is overpriced.
okay, well chrome on a laptop would render pages much faster than ipad and people are forgetting one thing. no flash. i know people are like "well flash sucks" and "html 5 will replace it" but until that happens...flash makes up a large portion of our web. and two many times ive run into the lack of flash on my itouch,
You compare the iPad's browsing experience to a laptop you purchased which you hate... 1) That has obvious bias. 2) There are better laptops (apparently) than the one you purchased. That being said, I just don't want a laptop to surf the web, I want it to be able to edit/ create documents on Word/Power Point/Excel easily and quickly, surf the web, Skype with friends/family and a bunch of other things the iPad wouldn't be able to do. As well as play the occasional Flash game.
