Alright, I was looking at the iPad and it costs a lot, just about as much as a laptop that can do probably half the things more. So why buy a iPad when you can just get a laptop? (Besides touch screen)
It's for people who already have laptops and cell phones. It's suppose to fill the niche inbetween having those two devices, not replace them. But if you need a laptop, then get one. The iPad is not a replacement for a laptop.
the same question everyone is asking. honestly, I think the iPad is an overpriced hunk of junk- it's really a big iPod Touch. Accelerometer games are rendered useless (who wants to be tilting around a 9 inch device while crowded in a bus) and it's too big to be pocket friendly yet too small to be a legit laptop That said-the bookshelf thing looks very cool, and it should be fun playing boardgames with the family or watching movies on it-sleek, beautiful, and great graphics. Other than this though, I see no reason to shell out $500+ for this thing, especially when it lacks such basic features as a camera and flash in the internet.
I don't think it is meant for bringing on the bus I plan on leaving mine at home most of the time. Using it on the couch, in bed etc.. Maybe in class. But I wouldn't be touting it around for it to get stolen.....especially a bus. Plus, there are thousands of non-accelerometer games you could play on a bus. You can pick games based on your situation. You don't play accelerometer games while laying in bed, and that's no reason to not get an iPod touch. How is one place where you can't use an iPad a good example of why you shouldn't get one?
You're saying your planning on leaving it at home-doesn't that eliminate all portability of the device? Why not just go the whole way and buy an iMac? 20 times the features, roughly twice the price--an iPad really does not make sense if you are not planning to transport it to places. About the accelerometer thing- not just on a bus, can you imagine how awkward it is to tilt that thing anywhere? Imagine trying to play Tilt to Live. Something that big-how would you tilt comfortably and accurately? You would develop arm aches after come time-and you certainly would not be racking up any high scores, because it would not be precise enough.
yes, and I'm sure Apple will do that, and charge it at $1500--also how does holding does a nine inch screen manage to work as a phone? It'd be like holding a Wii to your ear everytime you are talking to someone
It's basically just a bigger iPod Touch and the only reason to get it would be to play apps on a bigger screen. Really everything else you can do either on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or computer... haha Yeah I agree.
No, can't use an iMac on the couch or in my bed like I said I was going to use it. At other peoples houses, class, in the car etc.. It's going to be used with portability needed. I'm saying I wouldn't use it on a bus or subway or out on the street. You haven't even held one. I think your imagining this thing as being way bigger than it actually is. Wait until you actually know what it feels like before making this assumption.
Yeah. I think I will stick with my macbook, iPhone and iPod touch. The iPad features do look nice but I'll wait for a price drop or a newer version next year. I do hate Apple for releasing newer models every year... They should have mini macbook netbook Now that would be awesome to carry around rather than a macbook.
Maybe not but if you had a MacBook, you could use it on the couch or in bed with your iPhone at your side.
I really wish people would begin to understand that it is not meant to be a laptop replacement. It's a big, expensive media device/toy. It's for playing games, watching videos, reading books, listening to music, and browsing the internet. If you want a laptop, buy a laptop. The iPad is primarily for entertainment. I don't know why people can't seem to get that.
With my macbook on the couch I couldn't play the games like I could on an iPad. There's going to be all new games that utilize the 10'' screen and a whole new gaming experience that my phone won't be able to give me. They all offer different uses. The iPad has plenty of them. Much easier to take around than a laptop and it doesn't all the basic core features I'd need it to. Mail, games, internet, books, music, videos, etc... I don't see how you guys think it's worthless. EDIT: EXACTLY, THANK YOU. QFT.
The rich will buy it so they can wave it in all of our middle class faces until it drops down in price.
That's completely personal opinion. To some it will be, to some it won't. Just because it's not to you doesn't mean it won't be useful to other people.
About the "whole new gaming experience"-with all respect, I could not disagree more. Developers are not stupid-they know that there are far more iPod touches+iPhones than iPads. Any sane developer who is looking to make a profit will make it his goal to launch on the iPhone/iPod Touch. A secondary goal will be the iPad-because face it, no matter how much it sells, the iPhones and iPod touches have too big a head start. Devs know that, so they will not waste their time and money on creating a game solely for the Ipad. Mail, games, internet, books, music, videos.......all things the iPhone and iPod Touch can do. You just really said it yourself: there is nothing revolutionary about the iPad. And let me make clear, i do not think the iPad is worthless: I think it's sleek, elegant, and "cool". But is it worth close to a thousand bucks? Absolutely not
from any angle, how could you justify paying $500-$1000 for this? It's a big iPod touch with some bonus features thrown in. If I can get an iPod touch for $200, then why am I shelling out hundreds more to get a bigger one? I really do not understand what makes the iPad so much better to justify a $300-$800 price jump
