    Price has been dropped

The price has been dropped following feedback received on this thread.

I'm personally enjoying the whole "I've never heard of it, it's terrible" theme, mostly because I bought it full price on day one and I think it's a great game. However, I am rather old so I'm probably more appreciative of very hard, intense, non-casual arcade gaming experiences.

I'm beginning to think most gamers of today have forgotten what makes a game good which is gameplay , addictiveness and a something that is a challenge . All I'm hearing on here is the graphics suck or it looks terrible which to me comes in very far down my list of what I want from a game . I too bought it from day one as a gamer I knew what I was dealing with and what I expected from the game and that's exactly what I got a cool hardcore , retro gaming experience .

Age matters ... Jokes aside, people who grew with arcade games have a different idea of gaming than people who grew with cinematic experience. We spent quarters and hours in front of hard arcade games. Real arcade today is gone .... To a certain extent.

Example: suppose they would port as it was punch out today. It would sell a mere fraction of infinity blade .... While the latter is more or less a fantasy clone wth less humour and fun!

Cover fire is really fun and it is damn hard .... But it is not what people except or want today. As simple as that. And gosh, I wish somebody would make defender for my iPad!!

Why would a game with "retro" graphics and gameplay they compare to Bomberman need to be Ipad only? It's not like the technical or graphic limitations of the Ipod/Iphone would prevent this from being universal. Ipad only seems silly... Or am I missing something?

Hi everyone! I'm the author of Coverfire HD. I just wanted to say, "Thank you" for the feedback you've provided. As an author, I feel it is important to remain humble and listen to everything that players have to say about a game. As such, I have heard all of your concerns and have expanded my list of enhancements to address your needs.

Note that some of the concerns sound like they can be resolved by videos of the gameplay. In particular, many posters do not seem to understand why the special effects have been kept to a minimum and why the game won't work on the iPhone/iPod.

The short answer to those questions is that the game is extremely intense and requires absolute focus. Distracting particle systems would make this game unnecessarily hard. Similarly, the controls need to remain outside of the playfield, which is why the larger iPad screen was utilized.

It's probably easier to show you...

Hopefully those videos will help answer a few questions.

Thanks again for your feedback everyone! Here are a few promo codes to show my appreciation!

Thanks for the promo codes (I grabbed one).

My initial impression is that the idea is cool and I think it could be really fun. The controls, however, are frustrating.

Having to use the "stop" icon is counter intuitive to how most people expect the controls to work. I expect the ship to move in any direction so long as I'm holding the "button" down. The moment I remove my thumb the ship should stop at the closest intersection automatically.

I also had a very hard time firing -- most of my shots didn't register because my timing wasn't accurate enough. If I'm moving to the left, and I want to shoot up a column, I should be able to hold the up fire button and when my vehicle is in the right spot it should fire up. If I'm holding the fire up button as I pass a number of columns it should fire up each one of them.

As for the graphics, I'm a fan of metaphors and there's no real consistency here. There is a city background on the title screen, but orange blocks during gameplay? Are those supposed to be city blocks? How about making them look like the tops of buildings? And why am I shooting butterflies and collecting jewels? Pick a theme and have all graphics adhere to it.

    Good luck!

I played this game some more (even got 7 out of 8 Game Center achievements!).

The game does grow on you but I'm still having a hard time with the controls. I find myself mostly going back and forth along the bottom row picking off insects sort of like I'm playing Space Invaders. I rarely find myself going up the board unless I need to pick up one of those ammo icons.

If you haven't seen it yet, try watching the "Control Tips" video above. It explains some advanced techniques for precise control. Combined with what you're already doing, the techniques should make you an unstoppable, bug killing juggernaut! :)

I suspect that's going to be a very common answer. I believe the implication of the original question was, "If you have an iPad, why aren't you playing Coverfire?"

That being said, there is a useful aspect of that answer that would be helpful: If the game were available for something other than the iPad, would you be interested in purchasing and playing it then?

The nature of the game makes it very difficult to create a usable iPhone version. But I am doing research into new controls, so you never know! :)
