You need to do some reading. The Wii's software sales crush the 360's. Until the end of 2008 the Wii had sold 312m units of software, with the 360 sitting at around 230m units. And the 360 had a year's head start.

Halo fans are the most annoying creatures in the world.

Gears of War and all those flashy nonsense of the like.

IMHO, these are the real kiddie games because they seem to attract all sort of children who think playing them makes them "grown-up" somehow. For the rest of us, we don't need an M rating on the box to validate our adulthood.

Notice how the top 12 are Nintendo games, and all but 2 of the top 20 are too! I don't think any of those Ninty games would be considered "mature" or "adult" but obviously have a universal appeal. Its like a Pixar film being enjoyable to both kids and adults alike.

I'm 36 and I'm still a gamer! My hubby got me my Ipod touch to keep me occupied as I recover from cancer surgery. I never have liked shoot em games or guts splattering type ones, reguardless if they rate them adult or not. When you do "grow up" you don't care what people think, your happy to hide in the corner playing in your own little world, at least I am and I don't care who thinks what about it. I started getting back into games after my kids started turning into teens so we have something to do together as a family. It works for us and I have suggested it to many other parents.

I am a mom of 3 and an app store junkie! :p

I believe most of the money in the game industry is made with casual games, not those hardcore games. The gaming press loves them (and so do I!) but they are more if a niche that you might think. There's tons of money being made quietly outside of those hard-core game types. (Complicating the matter: those AAA titles don't always make big money. They may sell many copies, but they also cost a ton to make.)

Also, IIRC, Halo 3 was the best-selling game in that particular YEAR, and maybe only in the US. And I'd question what it's being compared to--ALL video games in all markets, or just its own peers? And in dollars sold or actual profits or in copies shipped? Different measures will get you a different answer. I highly suspect that WoW and some casual games (Bejeweled? Tetris? Freecell?) have had more total users than Halo 3.

But the main thing to remember is that a visual style doesn't mean a game is made for kids. It's just a visual style. Games truly made for kids would often be really boring for adults. Rolando, for instance, is not made for kids.

You can take the man out of high school, but...

Just kidding :) For the record, I'm a big fan of "adult" games like Halo, UT, and my all-time favorite game: Quake Wars.

    .....Else... well, you're a nerd

Just be glad it's something mild like iPhone games instead of Star Trek or "Bioschthock" (awesome video game, ruined by pruane2forever )

I don't think its fair to compare Halo 3 sales to wii sports sales, since wii sports comes with the wii system (except for in Japan according to Wikipedia). You don't rly have a choice in whether or not you want the game. Therefore if wii sports hadn't come with the wii it would of approximately sold about 3 mil units. Now I know that i can't rly say that the wii would of sold 3 mil units since we cant change the past. I got my information from http://www.vgchartz.com/ and Wikipedia. If I got anything wrong feel free to tell me. Im new to the boards but not the site.

    Edit: forgot to include sales
    wii sports 46.02 mil
wii's sold in America and other countries where it comes prepackaged: 43.05 mil

Dude. Don't pay attention to him. It's pointless to argue with him.

Apple needs to get ERSB to rate games, but more and more adult games will eventually come to the iPhone. Dexter, Gang$tar, Payback still has blood. And there are also BIA and Assassin's Creed, are quite adult. Just give it some more time.

That hit the spot for me. Thanks...:)
I am a TA nerd, which is where my nerdiness stops (I hope). I feel blessed that I am not feeling the need to study Klingon, or spot trains or make weekly visits to The Rocky Horror Picture Show dressed in a leotard!
