Why are developers moving away from old gen devices?

It was a real pain to adjust our game (tap disc) to run smoothly on 1st gen devices but we managed to do it.

I believe that developers must do their best to cover all the devices if possible.
Its easier and faster not to, but there are a lot of people that dont want or cant spend to get a new device.

The people who bitch about having old, unsupported devices know that Apple products tend to hold their value very well, right? Go sell off your old iPhones and iPod touches and buy new ones.

A lot of it comes down to the graphics.

We made our latest games (Reiner Knizia's Labyrinth, and Through the Desert) for the iPod first. We can use almost the same graphics for the latest generation iPhones / iPod touches by just scaling it properly. For older devices, we need to redraw stuff, and pack it to less bits for it to fit in memory. We're in the process now, and hope it will be worth the time to support older HW.

    cheers,

No one (especially developers) forces you to but any device old or new...no matter if your familiar with Apples anual releases or new to it.

No one forces you to buy an old iPod or an new iPad....read the specs, do some homework on the device your considering purchasing if you don't have an economic source that allows you to upgrade every year.

I've always had the newest iPhone & always will, & no i'm not a Spoiled kid or "a rich clown with money to throw away" (Somthing i read in this thread and was the most rudiculas profilling i ever heard). I have a job & like the iphone & know they come out once a year so i buy them cause i can earn & afford Them.

iPhone is the better of all iOS devices...it's consitantcy among apps that are optimized & developer support is hardly ever behind.

I wish iOS devices wern't updated every year but I also wish devs wouldn't price drop a game a week after I buy it.

Stop crying or criticizing devs because the device YOU bought isn't compatible.

Earn some cash, get a new device, buy some games, & play them.

That way you don't waste your time starting threads or posting about how you feel it's unfair that you don't have what you want. (which is probably a new device anyway)

You could've been out making some cash instead you chose to start a thread to pose a question you already know the answer too....you'll never get a new device at this rate.

I see a lot of lite versions in your future.
