So here's my dilemma. I have a 2nd Gen iPod touch, jailbroken on 4.0 (it's absolutely terrible). And at LEAST twice a week I get this problematic "White screen of death", if you will. The screen goes completely blank white. When I press the home button, white. Power button = white. Nothing shows up. This can usually be resolved, however, but performing a hard restart (holding down power and home for 10 or so seconds). I turn it back on, wait damn near 10 minutes and everything is fine again.... Untill today. I have the white screen going on again and I attempt to hard restart, and it won't let me. It doesn't do anything but flash the white screen. My battery level was already low so I just decided to let the battery drain. Fast foward a couple of hours and the battery is "Dead". Now though, when I try and turn it on from the power button, only a grey screen shows up. Doesn't even respond when I press the home button, just the power button. I've tried hard restarting it still, and it does nothing but flash a grey screen. I plug it in to iTunes and everything shows up just fine. (I can sync, move apps, blah blah blah) but it is still stuck on a grey screen. I have not tried to restore it, for I am at work and cannot do so. But is there any way around this? Has anyone experienced this same problem? Any remidies? Sorry for the novel post but I wanted to give as many details as possible. Thanks, Booch138
YouTube gives loads of search results for "iphone white screen", some of them claim to show you how to fix it, but other than that I'm clueless.
*Update**Update**Update**Update**Update**Update**Update* I restored my iPod touch at work just to get rid of the screen, and it is still white. Nothing will show up still. So I am realllllly f*cked. Thanks though Midian, I'll check out YouTube. *Update**Update**Update**Update**Update**Update**Update*
I had this problem a couple years ago on my original iPhone. I don't remember being able to restore it - I just let the battery run flat, recharged it and it was alright. Not sure if that will be the case for you though, but if you can't reboot, turn it on or off, restore it, or charge it, then the only thing you can do it let the battery drain out. Good luck.
Try these options: DFU mode: hold home and power buttons for 10 seconds then let go of power and keep holding home for 30 more seconds (with your iPod connected) then try restoring that way. Something something mode Hold home button and plug the 30pin connector end into your iPod while still holding down the home button. ITunes should then detect and iPod in recovery mode. Hope this helps!!
Tried both of these. It recognized my iPod and put it in recovery mode, but the screens were still white. Nope... ran out already. I am going to just leave it for dead for a few days and let the battery drain completely. If there are still grey/white screens, im giving it more time. I want the battery completely dead where nothing comes up. Might take a while (even though the battery has got to be less than 5-10%) I am just going to see what happens. If worse comes to worse I (and I really dont want to) take it apart and take out the battery and put it back in. But I really can't express how much I dont want to do that lol. Hoping this will work as well. Thanks bro.
Yeah this has happened to me a couple times. I just let the battery run dry and then restore it. Sorry man.
