Thanks for letting me know... I've got a SteelSeries Stratus. I *might* give it a shot shortly after release. I haven't been toting my Vita/3DS around lately so I'm back on the iOS side more.
this game is being tried in a manner too absurd, you can play perfectly well and has an engaging atmosphere. it's like playing a game of the old school (SNES) with beautiful graphics
Ok, embargo is over so here's my full review. Sadly, the controls weren't the only problem I encountered, so I never got to complete the game: http://www.appunwrapper.com/2015/08/26/whispering-willows-ios-review/
Glad I read this before taking the plunge. I've put out $40 now on some excellent games tonight. I want to take a vacation just to enjoy them all!
Btw, if you compare my photos to the photos in the App Store description, they don't even match. Neither the iPad version or iPhone version zoom in as much as the App Store photos make it seem. Again...misleading.
Just finished reading your review. That's disappointing to hear, I was looking forward to this one. Guess it's going on my Watch List until there's an update.
terrible control, terrible game interface, terrible game size(1.5GB,and this absolutely doesn't look like a 1.5GB game). So this is a terrible game. I would like to give zero star if I could...
Seems like I need to start waiting for reviews before shelling out the cash. I've only played a few minutes so far but the controls definitely hinder the experience. At least give me a floating joystick that is somewhat responsive. The joystick here is just horribly unresponsive. And yeah, 1.5 gig seems a rather large file size for this. I had to delete some good games to make room for this and right now I'm rather regretting it.
Remorseful buyer is remorseful. Definitely misleading screenshots, and the controls and faraway cam hinder the bejesus out of the experience for me. *flushes credit down toilet*
sometimes you do not get carried away by the impressions of others, the game is very good and the controls do their job well.
This game plays excellent with my mad catz micro c.r.t.l.i and the best part is those visible controls disappear.

Misleading images on the app description and neglecting to hide those ridiculous controls from any of the shots all points to a developer who knows their game has problems and is badly flawed yet is under pressure to release ASAP. An embargo on reviews prior to a date after release confirms those suspicions! Unfortunately for them, we are not idiots and would much rather a game takes longer to arrive but is done right than being bought to us sooner as a lazy, ill conceived port. I'm gonna give this a complete miss.
Developer of WW Hey guys, this is David, one of the developers of Whispering Willows. I'd hate for you guys to miss out on Whispering Willows because of the controls. We've heard your complaints and we are immediately looking into what we can do. As easy as it is to call us "lazy" and "trying to mislead you," that's completely not the case. I care very much about my game and was trying to create the best experience. I thought this classic controller style on screen would work best for a game like ours, I can see others felt differently. This was this first full scale mobile game released, with the majority of games released on PC before now. What I'd like to purpose is giving the option of having more intuitive touch controls or the on screen controller that we currently have. The game also works with bluetooth controllers already. What I'm considering for the "new" controls is removing the joystick completely, and allowing you to touch the screen anywhere you want to move. To interact with an object you merely just tap the screen. I'd like to ideally put astral projection as a gesture command as well, any suggestions? Then for inventory and pause menu, would that be okay as buttons on the side? What do you think? As for the bug Lisa (AppUnWrapper) ran into with the game not properly saving- that seems to be a completely unfortunate, one off event. We have hundreds of thousands of players across platforms, and that is the first time it came up. I'd like to turn this into more constructive criticism. Please give your input on controls, other things that could be improved on, and more. If you have questions about the game in general, or mobile ports, let me know. Let's continue this discussion and thanks for all feedback so far. David Edit: And in response to the embargo comments- we were not trying to deceive you there either. We're not a cash-hungry casino company, we're a few guys trying to make the best games we can. I much rather have people happy with my game, than to make money from it. Actually it's been 3 years of working on Whispering Willows and I still haven't gotten paid personally. Embargoes are incredibly common in the game industry. We set the date for reviews for the day we were getting featured in the Google Play Store. We released the night before because that's common practice.
To all the lovely people here complaining about the size of the game...do you guys have any idea how much space 2D art takes up? @Nightlight: Welcome to TA. First and foremost: No, for the love of all things undead in the world, please don't turn the controls into a "tap to move" scheme! Just leave them as is, but change the buttons to something pretty and in line with the art and theme of the game. I don't think the guys are complaining about the actual control scheme, but just the way the controls look jarring and out of place. Other than that? Eh, just take care of the auto-rotation issue and call it a day. There's no use in completely re-working the game.
