I am fairly sure my kids are deprived since literally every damn kid in our town has a DS. Its not like we can feel too superior, since we do let them play games on our iphones. We are going to give in, but by getting them touches, thereby saving a ton of money on the games. Some risk that the turning 5 year old will drop his, and probably not as durable as a DS, but we'll take the risk. I am wondering whether folks suggest spending the extra for 3d generation? Kind of assuming that once 3d is out, the 2ds will be availble for what $50 cheaper each?
Well the 3rd generation iPod's will possibly get a price drop (if a 64Gb model comes out) and possibly a camera. Now a DSi has a camera too and a SD card slot (4Gb to 16GB SD Card) and the DSi can play music too (just a little extra info for ya). The iPod Touch 2G will be about $50 less on EBAY, but granted hte iPod Touch 3G might get a price drop if a 64Gb model comes out. I'd say wait until the iPod Touch 3G comes out then make your choice.
Well the third still has yet to come out, so meaning if it has a camera all the camera apps for the iPhone will work for the iPod Touch 3G, and will not work for the iPod Touch 2G.
What ever you decide it a great choice my kids love their touches and the get all the games i had for free and if the want a new game i make them do chores and i get the game too and fell less guilty about spending the money
Well, I am hoping that the 3rd Gen Touch will be of a similar spec as the latest iPhone, so that there will be no framerate issues in games. I have bought a ton of games that just plain don't work on my 1st gen Touch, so I'm considering the upgrade to 3G Touch for that reason alone, camera or no camera. I'd say go for the 3G Touch when it arrives. You already saved a ton of money as you say by not going down the DS route. I'm guessing your children will a) enjoy the games at a faster framerate than on an older model and b) they will be the proud owners of the latest iPod Touch which will make them feel great, surely Just make sure you get an extra padded case for that little one of yours
Honestly...if the primary user is going to be a five year old, I'd wait until the 3rd gen is released, and then buy an Apple factory refurbished 2nd gen from the Apple store website. The refurbs are usually around $50 or so less than new, they've been cleaned, tested, totally refurbished by Apple themselves (so practically good as new, with new battery, accessories and outershell, etc. and covered by 1 year warranty). If the 2nd gen iPod touch gets a $50 price drop to clear out inventory of new units then the refurbs will also see a comparable price drop on top of the already lower price. The current gen touch retails new for $229 for the 8GB model, but factory refurbished it's $179 (and a 1st gen refurb is $159, btw). You have to figure that the new 3Gs based model will either retail for $229 itself, so new 2nd gen's might go down by anywhere from $20 to $50, and the refurb units will see a similar drop. If, however, adults are also going to use it, or you're getting multiples, wait for the 3rd gen and then buy that one.
In my opinion... a 5 year old really doesn't need an iPod Touch. I would wait until they were 10+ to get them one. By then there will be lots of new features haha. But if you are really going to get them one, get a 2G. They probably don't care all to much what generation it is because they are so young. What is a 5 year old going to do with a camera anyway?
I don't think a 5 year old needs a gaming system or an iPod touch. I would wait until 10. Just because i think there not old enough to handle it. I mean it is totally your parenting.
Yeah, I'm sure they dont need one, and 100% agree that waiting till 10 would be better. If we were better parents they would read in the car, sing songs, tell jokes, be happy with the 20 questions game, counting red cars or anything, and not beat the crap out of each other and drive us up the wall. But were not. We (the parents, not the kids) need for them to have one. It aint text book parenting, but its the difference between sanity and insanity. I can live with it, seeing as the whole town literally all the kids have a DS. Besides, the kids are doing all right, the 8 year old stays up late reading and has to be told to shut out the light or she'll read all night. And maybe I'm an immature loser, but I get a real kick out of making minigore jokes with the 5 year old. My wife almost killed me when I pointed at her and said to the 5 year old, "that thing is as big as a bear". His high score is around 240, and I'm looking forward to coop. My 8 year old can land 30 planes in flight control, we are doing coop now. Judge not lest ye be judged. Or judge, thats ok too
