Well, he got ridiculous, uncalled-for abuse for his Battle of Wesnoth review. Not sure if that was what prompted his retirement, but I wouldn't be surprised if it prodded him out the door. He's wit and wisdom will be missed.
Well, There's obviously more to it than that. Something must have happened. That's a shame. It's not even about the reviews, but it's nice to have mature voices on here, and he was often a voice of reason. I hope he didn't leave under bad circumstances.
I think that is why they hired Windburn and whoever Jim squires is. He left for various reasons and he did say this is not where he wants to be so I guess it was mostly on a bad note.
Wow, so because some halfwit didn't like one of his reviews they felt the need to personally attack him? Why didn't they just get reported and banned? Perhaps he felt that the maturity level of the forum was going down...sadly, I'm noticing that trend. Obviously, in a gaming forum you're going to have your share of young posters, but young doesn't have to equal immature. I'm getting increasingly annoyed at the over the top text speak and unintelligible posts.
Nah, we were actively looking for more people to produce front page content (and took on a few obviously) before Albie left. I don't think that had anything to do with it, but I'm not sure.
It was pretty freaking relentless -- the guy just kept going at it, questioning BA's integrity; not sure why he didn't get banned. As someone who's had similar accusations thrown at him, I can tell you: it makes you pause and wonder if the money and effort you spend to pick up a new game, play through it, and write something coherent and useful about it is worth it.
I just read the posts in the Westnoth thread. I was completely unaware of this situation. Can I ask under threat of penalty of infraction why that uberdouchebag didn't get banned?
He's just not posting here, he's not dead. This site is way too lenient on people like him, wish they were a bit more strict because he's just one of the many that have been popping up lately. BigAlbie's reviews were awesome whether you agreed with them or not he explained the game really well. When lite versions weren't available I would go to his reviews to see if I'd like the game or not. Not based on the score, but off his descriptions. He will be missed, hope he decides to come back one day. Even if it's not to review, but just post.
